WWE Can Change the Narrative at Elimination Chamber 2026
WWE Elimination Chamber has a herculean task ahead this weekend as it hopes to kickstart the road to WrestleMania 42.
WWE has its blockbuster main event for The Show of Shows in CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns, but it's not too late to spark interest in the rest of its barren card. The company has already proven that the last premium live event before The Showcase of the Immortal can change everything.
Last year's Royal Rumble result left fans divided. Jey Uso's upset win and Charlotte Flair's return to prominence didn't exactly light the world on fire, and many viewers quickly voiced their displeasure.

Fortunately, John Cena's jaw-dropping heel turn flipped the world on its head and gave the company's biggest show of the year an enticing hook. Similarly, the women's Elimination Chamber match delivered, setting up Jade Cargill vs. Naomi and Bianca Belair's spot in one of the best matches of 2025.
With this precedent set, Saturday night's festivities could be WWE's defining moment amid rampant criticism and struggling ticket sales.
An Auspicious Hometown Welcome
WWE's first televised event at the United Center in 32 years isn't stacking up to be the victory lap one would've expected. After all, the company has attempted to effectively plant its flag in one of AEW's strongholds, Chicago, IL, since Punk returned in 2023.
Last September, AJ Lee's reemergence also gave SmackDown in her adopted hometown another selling point. So, you would think hosting Elimination Chamber in the heart of the city at one of its most well-known venues would be a layup, right?
Nevertheless, the event didn't sell out due to TKO's unfavorable pricing strategy and a fairly lukewarm card. The negative buzz surrounding the company's new blackout rules will undoubtedly dissuade fans hoping to find a local watch party, as well.
Frankly, WWE needs a strong showing from both Punk and Lee to elevate this event into a memorable night en route to WrestleMania 42. On paper, both title matches look predictable, but they have a chance to squeeze enough goodwill out of a partisan crowd with two strong dance partners.

There's no reason to believe the women's Intercontinental Championship match can't overachieve because Becky Lynch has worked magic with other legends. Yes, the weeks leading up to it have left much to be desired, but the result could raise interest in a rematch.
No one expects Finn Bálor to unseat The Second City Saint in the main event ahead of his showdown with Reigns. Still, the 47-year-old has to show up as every bit the star we know him to be in this side quest, and hopefully, his upcoming opponent crashes the party afterward.

What's In The Box
The main problem heading into this event is that the outcome of most of the night's card is predictable. For example, Cody Rhodes is heavily favored to win the men's Elimination Chamber match and go on to face Drew McIntyre.
As such, WWE has to deliver some legitimate surprises. If the highly publicized mystery crate turns out to be a dud, it's going to stand out as a colossal misfire on an inspiring show.
It doesn't exactly bode well that we're hanging our hopes on the contents of the crate, but this event needs an unforgettable moment. More to the point, this product needs something to shake things up and re-engage viewers.
This could lead to a kooky pro wrestling reveal or a new wrinkle that will change someone's direction for The Showcase of Immortals. Whatever the case may be, it must live up to the hype and give us this company's distinct brand of sports entertainment.

Meanwhile, the field for the women's Elimination Chamber match could produce one of the biggest upsets of the night. Rhea Ripley is a safe bet, but anything could happen. Stranger things have happened in this stipulation match to set up a WrestleMania storyline.
WWE can shift the narrative this weekend, but it's going to take something drastic. The company needs to prove that it still has some tricks up its sleeve in time for its return to Las Vegas, and the same old routine won't cut it.
