Dejounte Murray Vehemently Denies Requesting Pelicans Trade, 'Locked In to Come Back' After Injury

William Guillory of The Athletic reported Jan. 29 that "all indications from folks on Murray's side suggest the 29-year-old would prefer to find a new destination" ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
He ultimately remained with the organization beyond the deadline, making his season debut on Tuesday.
Murray finished with 13 points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal in just under 25 minutes on the floor during New Orleans' 113-109 win over the Golden State Warriors. He shot 5-of-11 from the field and 1-of-4 from behind the arc.
"I've been through a lot," Murray said after the victory, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "I keep my chest out, chin up, smiling. And I'm just ready to see where it goes from here."
He's now in the midst of his second season with the Pelicans after they acquired him in a June 2024 trade with the Atlanta Hawks.
During Murray's first year in New Orleans, he averaged 17.5 points, 7.4 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game on 39.3/29.9/82.3 shooting splits.
The Pelicans will use the remainder of this season to see how he fits alongside promising rookies Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen, as they currently sit at No. 14 in the Western Conference standings with a 17-42 record.
Murray confirmed that he never asked to be traded at the deadline, though.
