Ospreay has been sidelined for months, as he underwent surgery on a neck injury in September 2025. At that time, he noted "the road will be long."
In August 2025, Ospreay told The Takedown's Zack Heydorn that he was "compromised," revealing that he had a "few herniated discs pushing against my spinal cord, which is affecting a couple of my nerves." Ultimately, he had surgery—and made his return on Sunday.
Sunday's bout was a rematch of the Feb. 14 Grand Slam Australia clash between Moxley and Takeshita, which saw them battle it out to a time-limit draw.
Given the result of the match, Mox challenged Takeshita to a rematch at Revolution, but with the added stipulation that there would be no time limit in order to ensure a winner.
Revolution marked the sixth one-on-one match between Moxley and Takeshita since 2022, and the second with a title on the line.
Mox won each of his first three matchups against Takeshita, but The Alpha finally got on the board during the Continental Classic in December when he beat Mox in a Blue League bout.
Despite that, Moxley still went on to win the Continental Classic by taking down Kyle Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada on the same night at Worlds End in December.
The match against Takeshita at Grand Slam Australia was Moxley's first title defense since becoming continental champion, and his reign nearly ended as soon as it started.
Rather than avoiding Takeshita after such a close call, Mox wanted to run it back, and he even gave up his champion's advantage by getting rid of the time limit.
That resulted in Takeshita's best chance to win championship gold in AEW since dropping the international title to Kenny Omega last year.
However, Mox prevailed at Revolution, thus keeping his young Continental Championship reign firmly intact.
