Canada's Connor McDavid Named Olympics MVP After USA Wins Gold, What Were NHL Star's Final Stats?
Not for the first time in his career, Connor McDavid was singled out as the best player on the ice as his team fell just short of glory.
The Canadian star was crowned the MVP of the men's hockey tournament at the 2026 Winter Olympics. He was also named the Best Forward and earned a spot on the All-Star squad.
McDavid finished with two goals and 11 assists across six games as Canada won a silver medal. His 13 points were three more than teammate Macklin Celebrini.
The 2026 Winter Games are probably bringing up memories of the 2024 NHL playoffs for McDavid. He was the Conn Smythe Trophy recipient as the postseason MVP but failed to lift the Stanley Cup that year. The Edmonton Oilers lost in seven games to the Florida Panthers in the final.
For as much as he has achieved individually, the absence of a Stanley Cup title or Olympic gold medal is a glaring omission on McDavid's resume.
It looks like his wait for the former will continue. The Oilers are on track to make the playoffs with 64 points through 58 games, but few would consider them favorites. Bleacher Report's Lyle Fitzsimmons listed Edmonton 18th in his pre-Olympic NHL power rankings.
McDavid will have to hang tight for four years for his next crack at Olympic gold, and the 2030 Winter Games will probably be his last best shot. The seven-time All-Star could still be playing by the time he's 37 in 2034, but he'll be past his peak.
Maybe McDavid can finally get over the hump with the Oilers before he and his Canadian teammates make the trek to the French Alps for the next Olympics.
