Germany Wins Gold Medal for 4-man Bobsled at Winter Olympics 2026
Germany claimed gold and silver in the men's four-man bobsleigh at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The quartet of Johannes Lochner, Thorsten Margis, Jörn Wenzel and Georg Fleischhauer posted a combined time of 3:37.57. That was 0.57 seconds better than compatriots Francesco Friedrich, Matthias Sommer, Alexander Schüller and Felix Straub.
This is the fifth Olympic gold medal all time for Margis and his first without Friedrich.
Switzerland at least denied the Germans a sweep. Michael Vogt, Andreas Haas, Amadou David Ndiaye and Mario Aeberhard earned bronze with a time of 3:38.64, just 0.04 seconds ahead of the fourth-place finishers.
The Swiss were fourth heading into the final heat but leapfrogged Germany with a blistering run of 54.77 seconds.
Team USA wound up far off the podium. It's two four-man teams were 11th and 12th, respectively.
Germany dominated the bobsleigh in Milano Cortina, winning three of the four total events. American Elana Meyers Taylor was the outlier as she narrowly bested Laura Nolte in the women's monobob.
All total, the Germans collected eight medals, more than twice as many as the next closest country (United States, three).
The four-man bobsleigh was the penultimate event on the Winter Games schedule, with only the men's ice hockey final to follow before the closing ceremonies.
Norway is assured of leaving with both the most overall medals (41) and most golds (18).
