Canada's Jon Cooper Trolls Juuse Saros' 'No Goals' Commercial After Olympic Win vs. Finland
Jon Cooper poked fun at Finnish goaltender Juuse Saros' long-running insurance commercial after Canada's 3-2 semifinal win over Finland at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
"What's his commercial... No goals?" Cooper asked about Saros after Friday's semifinal win, per SNY's Julie Stewart-Binks.
Saros is featured in a MassMutual commercial in which his Nashville Predators teammate Ryan O'Reilly asks about his financial goals, only to have Saros repeatedly answer "No goals."
Saros made 36 saves on 39 shots against Friday, but was unable to stop Nathan MacKinnon from scoring Canada's game-winning goal on a last-minute power play.
The netminder expressed unhappiness with Team Canada after the game, particularly on the goaltender interference penalty that led to Finland's first goal of the game.
The power-play opportunity came after Sam Bennett crashed into Saros in the paint late in the first period.
"I mean, he does that all the time. So, it's part of his game," Saros said about Bennett's penalty after the game, per Sportsnet's Luke Fox.
When asked if he felt Bennett's contact had been purposeful, Saros said, "You guys have seen him multiple times, so I think you know."
Canada's Brad Marchand had a different take on the penalty, per NHL Network's Jackie Redmond.
"Kinda unfortunate. I don't think he was ready for him to be coming in that hot. It is what it is," Marchand said. "Good job by Benny driving the net."
After goals from both teams in the second period, Finland went into the third period still holding a one-goal lead.
Saros and the Finnish defense were then unable to withstand a third-period onslaught from the Canadians.
Shea Theodore tied the game with a shot through traffic midway through the frame before MacKinnon scored in the final 35 seconds.
Canada was playing without captain Sidney Crosby, who was sidelined with a lower-body injury suffered during Wednesday's quarterfinal win over Czechia. Team Canada tried designing a custom brace for his leg before he was ruled out, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Without Crosby to anchor the second line, Cooper repeatedly returned to his top line of MacKinnon, Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini as the Canadians looked to come back from Friday's early two-goal deficit.
Cooper said Friday there is a chance Crosby will return for Sunday's gold medal game. If he remains sidelined, Cooper will once more be challenged to shuffle his lineup before taking on either the United States or Slovakia for gold this Sunday at 8:10 a.m. ET.
