Vonn originally tore her ACL during a World Cup event on Jan. 30, leaving her status for the Olympics in doubt. She made it through practice rounds in Milano Cortina, including posting the third-fastest time in the final practice.

During her first qualifying run in the women's downhill, Vonn crashed and had to be airlifted to a hospital to receive medical attention. She later revealed her injuries included a "complex tibia fracture" that would require multiple surgeries to correct.

Vonn announced on Feb. 11 that she had already undergone three surgeries. She posted a follow-up on Friday that she had another procedure that took six hours and "required a lot of plates and screws" to put her leg back together.

In the same post, Vonn revealed that she has not yet been discharged from the hospital but is getting closer to going home.

"Will explain the injury and what it all means soon," she wrote.

These injuries occurred in Vonn's left knee. She previously had a partial knee replacement in her right knee in April 2024 that included putting a block of titanium in the joint.

Seven months after that procedure, Vonn announced she was coming out of retirement with the goal of competing in the 2026 Olympics. The 41-year-old qualified for the Winter Games in December.

Vonn has won three Olympic medals in her storied career, including gold in the women's downhill at the 2010 Games.
