The wide odds tell the story here. Claressa Shields' draw is dominance and there's more to be expected in this spot.
Franchon Crews-Dezurn has earned the right to get a rematch. There aren't that many intriguing challenges left for Shields these days. However, she also hasn't done enough to believe things will be different.
Savannah Marshall is one of the few fighters who has actually given Shields a scare in the ring. She beat her in the amateur ranks and made their professional bout competitive.
Transitive property doesn't always work out in boxing, but Marshall became the second woman to beat Crews-Dezurn when the two met for the super middleweight title in 2023.
One of the most intriguing questions heading into Sunday night's main event is whether Shields can finish the fight.
Her volume and speed have overwhelmed plenty of opponents, but she only has three knockouts on her 17-0 record.
Crews-Dezurn was an inspiration for Shields in her young days as a boxer so there should be respect there.
"She was my motivation back then," Shields said, per Eric Woodyard of ESPN. "I found film on her on YouTube. I watched her. And I knew from back then she hit hard. That's what I noticed when I was 13. I said, 'That lady hits hard.'"
That should mean Shields is willing to crank up the heat a little bit to beat a former aspirational figure to remain the undisputed heavyweight champion.
