Women's Hockey Predictions
3 of 3
Switzerland vs. Sweden (Bronze Medal Game)
The Swiss have one of the best goalies in the world in Andrea Brändli, who gave up just two goals on 46 shots against Canada. She has the second-highest save percentage of the tournament and all but guarantees a close game. Ask those same Canadians, who were not as dominant as they have been in this tournament, thanks to her superb play in net.
Sweden has a talent goalie of their own in Ebba Svensson Träff, who can limit opposing offenses in her own right.
The potential equivalent to a field goal game in American football, one goal may win Thursday's game. If that is the case, trust Brändli not to give up the deciding score.
Prediction: Switzerland wins the bronze, 1-0
United States vs. Canada (Gold Medal Game)
The greatest women's hockey team in Olympic history defeated Canada in their first meeting in these games, 5-0, embarrassing and outmatching them at every turn. The United States has looked every bit an unstoppable force and an immovable object in these games, shellacking opponents.
Both teams have seen their younger stars play big roles in this tournament and that will likely be the case again Thursday. Whether Canada can avenge that first loss and deliver one of the bigger upsets in recent memory remains to be seen but there is nothing about the American performance in this year's Olympics that suggests it will be easy or even plausible.
This one will be closer than their first match-up, but the United States still emerges victoriously, paying off a historic run.
Prediction: United States, 4-2
