Bourque, a Marion, Massachusetts, native, is considered to be the No. 86 overall player and the No. 6 quarterback in the class of 2026 by 247Sports' composite rankings. He initially committed to the Wolverines in August, when Sherrone Moore was still Michigan's head coach.
Along with Michigan, he holds offers from Georgia, Oregon and Florida, who he had an unofficial visit with last spring. He also attended a camp at Clemson over the summer.
Bourque's most recent offers came from Penn State and Virginia Tech in December and Washington last month, so it's fair to assume those three schools will continue their pursuit of Bourque now that he's decommitted from the Wolverines.
While losing a 4-star commit is never easy, it's not the end of the world for Michigan. The Wolverines will have Bryce Underwood, the former top quarterback in the class of 2025, under center once again in 2026 after he opted to stay with Michigan following Kyle Whittingham's hiring.
The Wolverines also have a 4-star quarterback on the way in Tommy Carr, the No. 22 quarterback in the class of 2026.
If Michigan can put together a good first season under Whittingham, it could attract another top quarterback, either through the transfer portal or from the recruiting trail.
The Wolverines are coming off a subpar 9-4 season that saw Moore fired after violating a school policy. Michigan is just a few seasons removed from winning a national championship and will look to return to that level under Whittingham.
