B/R Staff Predictions for Ryan Garcia vs. Mario Barrios
Are we about to see the recrowning of "KingRy?"
Ryan Garcia looks to reestablish himself among boxing's best as he faces Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title Saturday night in Las Vegas.
You never know what to expect from Garcia on fight night, which makes his matchup against the champion all the more fascinating.
But enough chit-chat. Who's winning?
The B/R Combat Sports staff got together to provide their picks.
Garcia Batters the B-Side
1 of 3
Barrios is a good pro with a solid career who's secured high-profile bouts with Manny Pacquiao and now Garcia.
But let's not kid anyone. He's the B-side here for a reason, just like he was against a 46-year-old Pacquiao last summer.
Regardless of what you thought of the official verdict, that fight was far closer than any bout matching a 30-year-old reigning champion and an inactive AARP-eligible opponent ought to be.
Which means not only should Garcia win, but he should also do so in a quick, impressive fashion that provides viral highlights and sets him up for whatever the estranged Golden Boy promotional apparatus has lined up next.
And anything short of that is less an endorsement of Barrios than it is an indictment of "KingRy."
Prediction: Garcia by TKO, Round 4

Expect Garcia to Get It Done
2 of 3
I agree with everything Lyle said. His prediction makes total sense.
However, I must force myself to consider one question: When was the last time a Garcia fight made total sense?
He should outbox Barrios. His speed should prove too sharp. Once all is said and done, we should see a new champion who is looking towards a positive future of title defences.
I just can't settle on it being as straightforward as that.
Barrios is unflashy as it gets, but I think he has the fundamentals to at least give Garcia some issues if the latter isn't fighting at 100 percent. He's got a good jab and makes decent use of distance. That could be interesting against Garcia, who has proved prone to losing his concentration in recent bouts.
With that said, such analysis is the devil on my shoulder talking. Betting against Garcia seems silly; he's by far the more talented fighter and is capable of methodically taking Barrios out. Only he can cause that advantage to slip.
Prediction: Garcia by TKO, Round 6

Garcia Knows the Stakes
3 of 3
I can't argue with anything Lyle or Nick said. If Garcia is anywhere near the boxer we believe he is, he should win this fight handily.
At his best, he is tremendously gifted, whereas Barrios has spent his recent career scraping by opponents he should have beaten much more clearly.
Of course, no Garcia fight is ever that simple. While we know what he's capable of when he's locked in, there's plenty of reason to question how locked in he'll actually be on Saturday.
My guess is he'll be well prepared and fully focused in the ring. After his ugly 2025 loss to Rolando Romero, and the chaotic saga with Devin Haney that preceded it, he desperately needs an impressive performance.
Anything less could cause irreparable damage to his reputation in the sport, leaving him to chase weird exhibition bouts like the one he briefly signed up for in Japan in 2024.
Unlike Lyle and Nick, I do think Barrios can survive to the final bell, but I don't see it being particularly close.
Prediction: Garcia by unanimous decision
