"I'm trying," he added when asked by reporters how close he was to a return. "It has been challenging. I've entered a new decade. That number has sunk in."
Woods, 50, last competed professionally at the 2024 British Open, where he missed the cut. He also missed the cut at both the U.S. Open and PGA Championship that season and finished 60th at The Masters.
His last win came in 2019 at the Zozo Championship.
At his peak, Woods was arguably the greatest golfer in the history of the sport, winning 15 majors. Fourteen of them came between 1999-08, one of the most dominant runs the sport has ever seen. Scandal and injuries cut that period of dominance short, however.
Still, Woods remains one of the most prominent figures in the sport. While Scottie Scheffler appears to be the new king of the hill in the sport (three major titles since 2024), Woods' legacy is secure.
How much he will be able to play into the future, however, remains very much up in the air. Golf fans would surely love to see him back in action in Augusta, where he won his last major title back in 2019. The days of winning green jackets are likely behind him, but he remains a fan favorite.
