Olympic Figure Skating Results 2026 Women's Short Program Top Scores, Highlights
In her final Olympic appearance, Japan's Kaori Sakamoto will be facing some stiff competition from her own teammates at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games.
Japan's Ami Nakai topped the field in Tuesday's women's short program with a score of 78.71, while Sakamoto came second with 77.23. Japan's Mone Chiba also placed fourth with 74.00. The top 24 competitors from the 29-woman field advanced to Thursday's free skate, where Sakamoto will be seeking her first Olympic gold medal before riding off into the sunset.
The Team USA trio of Alysa Liu, Amber Glenn and Isabeau Levito all made it through to the free skate. The ladies looked relaxed in the moments leading up to their routines.
Liu, the reigning world champion, kicked things off with an elegant performance that earned a score of 76.59, finishing third behind Nakai and Sakamoto. Levito, who is the youngest of the trio at 18 years old, followed with a beautiful routine to score 70.84 to place eighth.
Glenn started strong with a triple axel but faltered midway through her routine, losing seven points along the way and scoring 67.39 to place 13th.
The three Americans are each looking to bring home Team USA's first individual women's figure skating gold medal in 24 years. Liu and Glenn already earned a gold medal at the Milan Cortina Games after Team USA won the figure skating team event.
Thursday's free skate is sure to provide some excitement as Sakamoto tries to stave off the rest of the field as she chases her first Olympic gold medal in her final Winter Games appearance.
