Men's Hockey Picks
3 of 3
Czechia vs. Denmark
Czechia has not played up to its own expectations in these Olympics, falling 5-0 to the unstoppable Canadians and needing a furious comeback to get past France. Tuesday's game will represent their last opportunity to get right, against an outmatched opponent, before a likely rematch with Team Canada.
Martin Necas and David Pastrnak lead a Czech roster that is better, has more depth, and should outlast an older team that will have to grind just to keep up.
Prediction: Czechia wins big, 6-0
Sweden vs. Latvia
Latvia does not have the star power that their opponents do but they have work ethic. They have outperformed expectations in these Olympics, upsetting Germany and holding tight with the United States for longer than most could have imagined. While they do not have NHL talent, they do have national pride and a gritty determination to win.
That will not be enough for them Tuesday, though. Despite underperforming and never finding consistency across the board, the Swedish team boasts a roster that includes William Nylander, Elias Lindholm, Rasmus Dahlin, and Erik Karlsson, to name a few. The experience and higher level of play should give them the edge ahead of an unenviable showdown with the United States in the next round. It will be closer than most think, though.
Prediction: Sweden defeats Latvia, 4-2
