France's Pierre Crinon Suspended for 'Provocative Behavior' on Video After Tom Wilson Olympics Fight
The 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics are over for French hockey player Pierre Crinon.
Crinon and Canadian Tom Wilson dropped the gloves and fought during Canada's 10-2 win in Sunday's men's hockey game. Wilson, who plays for the NHL's Washington Capitals, was given a five-minute major and game misconduct, but France decided to punish Crinon far more severely than just the ejection.
As Mark Lazerus of The Athletic relayed Monday, the French team suspended him for the rest of the Games because of his "provocative behavior upon leaving the ice" that was "a clear violation of the Olympic spirit and also undermines the values of our sport."
Crinon was seen interacting with the crowd in a notable way as he exited:
The fight happened shortly after Crinon's two-minute minor penalty for a hard hit he unleashed on Canada's Nathan MacKinnon.
As Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported, the ejection for Wilson did not trigger an automatic one-game suspension even though the IIHF had the option to impose further discipline.
Wilson already made headlines in these Games for a hard hit that injured Switzerland's Kevin Fiala. Fiala, who plays for the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, exited on a stretcher and underwent surgery for fractures in his left leg.
Fiala will miss the rest of the NHL season.
Wilson has a reputation as one of the league's most physical players and fighters. Since he entered the NHL in 2013, his 1,610 penalty minutes are the most in the league and more than 500 ahead of anyone else.
As for France, its next game without Crinon will be Tuesday against Germany in a win-or-go-home qualification matchup. The victor will advance to the quarterfinals and face Slovakia.
Canada will play Wednesday in the quarterfinals against the winner of the game between Czechia and Denmark.
