Adam WellsFeb 14, 2026

Jordan Stolz's quest for Olympic history continues after the American speedskater won his second gold medal at the 2026 Winter Games on Saturday.

The 21-year-old followed up his 1,000-meter victory on Wednesday with another gold medal in the 500 meters on Saturday.

Stolz has also set new Olympic record times in both races, finishing the 1,000 meters in 1:06.28 and 500 meters in 33.77 seconds.

Per NBC's Olympics website, Stolz took up speed skating at the age of five after seeing Apolo Anton Ohno at the 2010 Olympics:

"By age 9, Stolz's speed skating prowess was clear—so much so that his parents decided to homeschool the young phenom to allow him more time to train. Five years later, he earned his first senior national title and set his first of 23 junior national records, but it was during the following season that his career really took off."

Stolz's made his senior debut during the 2021-22 season and qualified for the 2022 Olympics, competing in the 500-meter and 1,000-meter events.

At the age of 17 during the 2022 Games, he became the third-youngest American men's speed skater to make the Olympics. The Wisconsin native finished 13th in the 500 meters and 14th in the 1,000 meters in Beijing.

Stolz's journey to the 2026 Olympics included winning gold in the 500 meters, 1,000 meters and 1,500 meters at the 2025 Four Continents Championships. He took home four medals, including two gold, at the final World Cup event prior to the Olympics in January.

After his 500-meter triumph on Saturday, Stolz has two more events as he looks to become the first male speed skater to win four gold medals at a single Olympics. He will compete in the 1,500 meters on Thursday, followed by the mass start event on Feb. 21.

Norway's Johann Olav Koss is the last men's speed skater to claim three golds at a single Olympics, winning the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters in 1994.
