Women's Giant Slalom Prediction
2 of 2
Federica Brignone silenced doubters with her gold medal performance in the Super G and immediately catapulted herself into contention for a medal in Saturday's Giant Slalom event.
The home country competitor fought her way back onto the slopes following a devastating injury suffered at the 2025 Italian Championships, including several fractures and a torn ACL.
Not only did show show out in her first event of the Milano Cortina games, but Brignone delivered what Sean McAlister of Olympics.com referred to as a "virtuoso performance" in her first event since the injury.
Now she has the opportunity to do the seemingly unthinkable and have her first two events back end with a finish on the podium.
It will not be easy.
Julia Scheib of Austria looks like the favorite, riding a wave of momentum into the race that includes four victories and two podium finishes, Alessandra Poggi wrote for the site. Switzerland's Camille Rast, New Zealand's Alice Robinson, and the United States' Paula Moltzan are all immensely talented and can take the gold in Saturday's event.
While another win for Brignone would complete a seemingly unimaginable return to the sport, Scheib has been too good of late and should take a gold. It would be the latest achievement in her recent dominance in the event.
Do not rule out a silver or bronze finish for Italy's resilient skier.
