The team and men's events are already complete, along with ice dancing. The men's event unfolded on Friday, with Kazakhstan's Mikhail Shaidorov claiming the gold medal. After picking up medals in the first two events, Team USA was left off the podium on Friday.

Here's a quick recap of what we've seen thus far, a look at the remaining Winter Olympics figure skating schedule, and what to watch in the coming days.

Figure Skating - Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics: Day 2
Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea of Team USA

Team USA took gold in the team event by a narrow margin over Japan. A strong showing by ice dance duo Madison Chock and Evan Bates helped set up the win, which men's star Ilia Malinin sealed with a stellar long program.

However, Chock and Bates lost to the French duo of Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron in the ice dance medal event. The finish came in quite the controversial fashion.

Chock and Bates appeared to have a much cleaner free dance than Beaudry and Cizeron. However, French judge Jezabel Dabouis awarded Beaudry and Cizeron a 137.45 and Chock and Bates a 129.74. Beaudry and Cozeron went on to win the gold by fewer than two total points.

Malinin's run in individual competition was even more disappointing for the Americans. Though the 21-year-old phenom carried a five-point lead into Friday's free skate, he fell twice and finished without a medal.

"I was not expecting that," Malinin said on the NBC broadcast. "I felt so ready getting on that ice. Maybe I was too confident it was going to go well."

While Malinin's shaky routine wasn't expected, it shouldn't take away from Shaidorov's stellar performance. His victory brings Kazakhstan's first Winter gold since 1994.

On Sunday, Team USA's pairs team of Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea will take the ice and try to get the Americans back on the podium. However, they'll face a very talented field headlined by the Georgia pair of Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava, Germany's Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin, and the Japanese pair of Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara.

Team USA may have a better shot at gold in the women's singles competition, which will begin on Tuesday. Alysa Liu, Amber Glenn, and Isabeau Levito are all fantastic skaters who have medaled at Grand Prix or World Championship events.

Liu is the reigning world champion and probably represents Team USA's best chance to add another gold to their 2026 figure skating count. She and Glenn both contributed to last weekend's team win, but Liu had the cleaner overall program.

However, the Americans will have to pull out an upset to win women's gold, as Japan's Kaori Sakamoto appears to be the one to beat. The three-time world champion had a spectacular run in the team event, briefly giving Japan the lead before Malinin's epic run.
