'Bittersweet,' Madison Chock Reacts to Winning Olympic Silver Medal with Evan Bates in Ice Dance

Madison Chock and Evan Bates experienced the highs and the lows of the Winter Olympics on Wednesday.

The American figure skating duo, which came to Milano Cortina with high hopes as the three-time reigning world champions, took the lead with a 134.67 score for their program set to a flamenco version of "Paint It Black" with just one more pair set to perform.

France's Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron performed last, and they scored 135.64 points for a total of 225.82 to take the lead and win gold. While Chock and Bates went home with a silver medal, Chock admitted that it was a "bittersweet" moment.

"It's definitely a little bittersweet because we are so, so happy with how we performed this week," Chock told reporters. "We really gave it our all, and I wouldn't change anything about how we approached each performance, what we delivered in each performance. We really gave it our best.

"And that's what we set out to do coming to these Games. So I think we've got a lot to be proud of and a lot to be grateful for because we've had an incredible career and we've been so well supported by our families and our coaches, by each other. And sometimes that's just how it shakes out. This is history for us and I wouldn't change anything."

Chock and Bates, who have been performing together since 2011, have achieved plenty throughout their careers, including two Winter Olympic gold medals, but coming up short of gold in what could be their final Games comes with a degree of disappointment.
