Stubborn: It All Just Sums Arsene Wenger Up

Kirk HendersonSep 13, 2009

I've finally recovered from that shocking result against City at middle Eastlands and I've had time to review and re-cooperate and come to a realisation.

Arsene Wenger is a ridiculously stubborn man.

See the thing is he is stubborn because he persists on playing the same crappy players over and over again, for example Denilson, Eboue, Diaby, Almunia. He constantly plays players out of position like central midfielders on the wing and he doesn't buy when he needs to buy.

Denilson—I have screamed and screamed to my television and my sister why he keeps on playing Denilson, the invisible man.

He contributes nothing to attack nor defence, I get it he intercepts he sticks his foot in and occasionally intercepts the ball but other than that, can you truly say he does anything else, he doesn't gallop past players and take the game by the scruff of the neck, he doesn't even play like Gilberto does where he played in the shadows but he made a difference.

Eboue—He's a 50/50 player he sometimes can play good but sometimes he can play shambolic. Against Celtic inspirational, Against Man United not so much. Eboue is a good right back but anything else he's just not able enough and lacks the intelligence to play in a variety of positions.

Diaby—Well what can we say about Abou Diaby, one day he can look like Patrick Vieira, the next like something unexplainable. Like the Man United goal, why, oh why did he head that ball and in that specific direction—it made absolutely no sense.

He holds onto the ball for way too long, in the match against Man City I saw on so many occasions when a possible break was on he held onto the ball for too long and the move came too a halt. We all know he has skill but there is a time for it and when we are 4-1 down its not the time for it.

Almunia—I remember the Man United semi-final last season I applauded his performance, he single-handedly kept us in the game but then the second-leg came along and his positional sense just showed us why he shouldn't be our No. 1.

Already this season he has made several mistakes, it even started in pre-season with that mistake against that team I can't remember. I would say give Fabianski a chance but I think we all remember how he performed at the end of last season.

Now, I get it, playing youngsters too early can harm them physically and mentally but when you have the youngsters we have at our disposal you seem to wonder why he doesn't sometimes play them, the likes of Wilshere and Ramsey.

Moyes played Rooney at 16 and look how that turned out. Wenger needs to take a leap of faith and start playing footballers where they are meant to be played and not just where you want them to play.
