TNA iMPACT Results, Winners, Live Grades, Reactions and Highlights From Jan. 29
Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage of TNA Impact on January 29.
Following last week's big betrayal involving Moose and JDC, The System appeared this week to talk about what the future holds for the group.
Here's a look at what TNA advertised for Thursday's show:
Let's take a look at what happened on this week's Impact.
The New System
1 of 9
Thursday's show opened with the new version of The System heading to the ring. Eddie Edwards, Brian Myers, Cedric Alexander and Eddie Edwards got some heat from the crowd as they posed in the ring.
Myers began by simply saying, "It had to be done," over and over. Edwards called Moose a selfish prick who puts himself first. Alisha Edwards came out to voice her anger at the group for keeping the plans from her.
Eddie told her that letting her emotions decide for her is the problem and can't happen in business. She said she doesn't want to be part of The System anymore and left.
This was the end of a pretty standard segment to establish the group as heels. It will be more interesting to see which briefcase Eddie has later in the show.
Grade: C+
BDE vs. Nic Nemeth
2 of 9
After a backstage confrontation last week, Nemeth and BDE agreed to have a singles match on this week's show.
BDE was looking to prove he is not just some flash in the pan, and Nemeth was looking to show the young star that he should be taking things more seriously.
Nemeth took control early and seemed fully confident that this would be an easy fight for him, but BDE surprised him by sending him out of the ring for a suicide dive.
Nemeth regained control during the break and was punishing his younger opponent when we returned. BDE started making a comeback and hit a huge frog splash for a near-fall. When he went for his signature cutter, Nemeth countered with his own finisher for the win.
They did a good job playing up the rookie vs. veteran angle, but the match itself left a little to be desired. This should have been a highly physical contest, but it felt like they were holding back more than they should.
Result: Nemeth defeated BDE

Notable Moments and Observations
This Rivalry is Not Over
3 of 9Ryan Nemeth came out while Nic was leaving. He brought his Genesis opponent, Mara Sade, to the ring. He lamented how Mara has been superkicking him week after week, which caused a "You deserve it" chant.
He bragged about beating her at Genesis and said she should shake his hand and admit defeat. She refused and he accused her of being attracted to him.
Mara eventually shook his hand only to attack him immediately. He caught the superkick and took her down with a clothesline.
This got some decent heel heat on Nemeth, but this is the kind of segment that is going to have fans split no matter what. It was fine for what it was and kept the feud going, but it was a little on the brief side.
Grade: C
Stacks vs. Home Town Man
4 of 9Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo was in action next in a match against The Home Town Man. He wore an Albuquerque Isotopes jersey to the ring.
HTM took Stacks off his feet with a Thesz Press to get the fight started when Stacks teased stomping on the hat he was going to throw to the crowd.
Arianna Grace refused to cheat to help Stacks while the ref had her back turned, and Stacks looked shocked. He locked HTM into a single-leg crab, but the masked man got to the rope to break the hold.
These two had a fun outing even if the match won't be winning any awards. They had the crowd invested with their antics, and that is the most important thing in the end. Stacks did a great job playing a heel who wanted to take the low road.
Stacks took his belt and tried to use it as a weapon, but Grace yanked it away from him. Stacks was able to get the win with a dirty pin anyway.
Result: Stacks defeated HTM

Notable Moments and Observations
Jason Hotch vs. Elijah
5 of 9The Order 4's Jason Hotch was in action this week when he took on Elijah in a singles bout. The rest of The Order 4 was at ringside to support Hotch.
Elijah came out of the corner with a running boot as soon as the bell rang. He picked up Hotch by his arm and tossed him across the ring.
He no-sold a chop from Hotch and continued to work on his arm. Elijah was distracted by Mustafa Ali so Hotch could hit a dive over the top rope to take him down.
This felt like a handicap match with how much The Order 4 was getting involved, but Elijah is good at getting the crowd behind him. This was a solid match that had some good spots for both guys. Hotch looked especially impressive at times.
Elijah was able to overcome the disadvantage and scored the win with his finisher, but he was attacked by the rest of the group as soon as it was over. Elijah managed to fight them off and posed for the crowd to end the segment.
Result: Elijah defeated Hotch

Elayna Black vs. Ruthie Jay
6 of 9
After making her debut two weeks ago at the AMC premiere episode, Elayna Black officially had her first match this week when she faced Ruthie Jay. Daria Rae joined commentary to watch her recent signee work.
Jay had the crowd on her side, but Black wrestled her to the mat to take control. Jay got in a little offense to keep this from being completely one-sided, but this was essentially a glorified squash match.
This was designed to make Black look good in her debut, so she picked up a quick win in just a couple of minutes. Even though there wasn't much to this, they did a decent job with what they had.
Result: Black defeated Jay

Feast or Fired
7 of 9
The four briefcases from last week's Feast or Fired were revealed in a backstage segment. Trey Miguel's case contained a shot at the International Championship, Edwards had the shot at the world title, Eric Young had the X-Division title shot, and Steve Maclin's case said he was fired. This was a very brief segment.
AJ Francis vs. Rich Swann
8 of 9
This week's main event was a No Holds Barred match between former friends Francis and Swann.
Swann took control right away and sent Francis out of the ring, but the big man took him out when he tried to pull a table from under the ring.
They fought up to the stage where Francis hit a modified Pedigree as the show went to a break. We returned to see Francis choking Swann with a chain while sitting in a chair in the middle of the ring.
They did a good job mixing weapons into their offense in a way that didn't feel like they went overboard but still used them enough to make a difference. Swann looked especially good in this bout.
The high-flyer sent Francis crashing through two tables at ringside, but it wasn't enough to put him away. However, a hurricanrana onto a pile of chairs followed by a huge frog splash from the top rope got the job done.
Result: Swann defeated Francis

The Final Word
9 of 9The premiere of Impact on AMC was not that good, but last week's show was a big improvement. Thursday's episode fell somewhere between.
Swann and Francis stole the show in the main event, but the primary reason it was the best match is because the rest of the show was relatively mediocre.
Elijah and Hotch had a decent showing, as did Stacks and HTM, but neither of those matches had the benefit of being able to use weapons and fight all over the arena.
TNA has a lot of great talent but seems to unable to book everyone properly with just two hours every week, especially when it comes to the champions.
Black will be a great addition to the Knockouts roster, and with Ash cleared to compete again, that division could quickly become the most competitive in the company again.
