Sami Zayn, Real Winners and Losers of WWE Saturday Night's Main Event Match Card

Chris MuellerJan 24, 2026

The Royal Rumble is next weekend, but before WWE heads to Saudi Arabia, we got another edition of Saturday Night's Main Event.

The show included four matches, but only one championship was defended on the card.Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley put the women's tag titles up against the team of Roxanne Perez and Liv Morgan.

We also saw a new No. 1 contender decided in a Fatal 4-Way involving Randy Orton, Damian Priest, Trick Williams and Sami Zayn.

AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura revisited their rivalry with a match, and Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu tried to settle their differences in the ring.

Let's take a look at what went down on Saturday in Montreal.

Winner: Drew McIntyre, Losers: Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu

WWE: Saturday Night's Main Event

The match between Rhodes and Fatu kicked off the action, and for the first time since debuting in WWE, Fatu was shirtless for the match.

It looked like he had used some of his time off to get into the best shape of his life and wanted to show off his progress.

The match never officially got underway because they started fighting as soon as Rhodes got to the ring. They fought all over the arena and took out several members of security while they used everything they could find to hurt each other.

Drew McIntyre inserted himself into the fight and put both men through tables, ending the battle before we got a proper conclusion.

The way this was booked prevented both men from taking a loss, but it also led to us not getting a real finish. McIntyre came out of this looking great, but Rhodes and Fatu didn't come any close to settling their feud.

It's likely The American Nightmare and Samoan Werewolf will lock horns again, but for now, their focus is going to shift to the Royal Rumble next weekend.

Winners: All Four Women

WWE: Saturday Night's Main Event

Sky and Ripley put their women's tag titles on the line against Morgan and Perez in the second match of the night, and thankfully, this one actually got started unlike the first bout of the night.

These are four of the brightest stars on the Raw roster, so the crowd was pretty hyped for this match as they all made their entrances.

Both teams did a great job using tandem offense, and all four competitors worked hard to make sure this match was entertaining, especially after the massive brawl that kicked off the show.

At the end of the day, the result almost became secondary because everyone performed at such a high level.

Raquel Rodriguez showed up and tried to influence the decision with some interference, but Stephanie Vaquer showed up to drive her off through the crowd and give the champions a chance to recover.

The Genius of the Sky and The Eradicator scored the win to retain, but all four women came away from this match looking great.

Winners: Shinsuke Nakamura, AJ Styles and Everyone in Attendance

With Styles revealing that 2026 would be his final year as a competitor, every match he has feels important, but the one we got on Saturday felt special.

Nakamura and Styles have more than just WWE history between them thanks to their time in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. These two have literally fought all over the globe, but the last time they had a singles bout was all the way back in 2020.

They didn't need a title or a hardcore stipulation to make this feel like a big deal because just having the two of them face each other was enough. Styles even had a special mask made for his entrance as a callback to the first time he wore a mask against Nakamura in NJPW, which Michael Cole noted was roughly 10 years ago.

The crowd was chanting and cheering for every single thing they did, so Nakamura and Styles were able to take their time and ease into things before kicking it into high gear.

To the surprise of nobody, they put on a great match that showcased what makes these two such special performers. It may not have been the best bout they have ever had together, but it certainly felt bigger than a normal TV match.

The result of this match had no bearing on anything past this show, so the only thing that mattered was the quality of the action, and the fans in Montreal were treated to quite the show. Styles may have won, but it's hard to say there was a loser when the match was that good.

We sometimes take wrestlers for granted until their careers are over, but these are two of the most respected stars of their generation, so it was nice to see them get one more go-around before The Phenomenal One calls it a career.

Winner: Trick Williams

4 of 5
SmackDown

Williams has only been part of the main roster for a handful of weeks, but he has already found himself in a main event spot on a TV special this early in his run.

Just being in the ring with three veterans like Orton, Zayn and Priest fighting for a world title shot has elevated Trick Willy faster than anyone could have predicted.

The former NXT and TNA champion appears to be a priority for management, which isn't surprising given the level of success he has already achieved in NXT.

Win or lose, William was going to leave Montreal better than he came into it just from being included in this match. Even his former partner Carmelo Hayes, a man with multiple show-stealing performances, hasn't been pushed to this level yet.

In a few years Melo and Trick Willy could be main-eventing PLEs together if they both continue on the paths they are currently on.

Winner: Sami Zayn, Loser: Damian Priest

The Fatal 4-Way that closed the show saw Orton, Williams, Priest and Zayn fight for a shot at Drew McIntyre's WWE Championship next weekend at The Royal Rumble.

The Montreal crowd gave Zayn a hero's welcome with cheers and chants for several minutes during and after his entrance.

All four Superstars had moments when it looked like they might win to keep the outcome unpredictable, but as the match progressed, Orton and Zayn emerged as the favorites.

When the dust settled, it was Zayn who was able to clinch the win and earn a title shot next weekend.

This was a fun match that had the best possible outcome for a show in Canada. The Archer of Infamy ended up being the one who was pinned, but he likely won't suffer a loss of too much momentum as a result.

This was one of the best episodes of SNME since WWE brought the show back in 2024. There wasn't a single weak match on the card. If you didn't watch it live, this is definitely worth two hours of your time.
