Josh Hart Injury Update, Latest News on Knicks Star's Ankle and Timeline to Return
The New York Knicks have provided an injury update on forward Josh Hart, who has missed four straight games with a sprained right ankle.
Hart has averaged 12.3 points on 49.8 percent shooting, 8.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Hart's been a fantastic and invaluable addition to the Knicks ever since they added him via trade from the Portland Trail Blazers in Feb. 2023. He's helped lead New York to the Eastern Conference semifinals twice and the conference finals once since his arrival.
The 30-year-old has helped the Knicks earn a 23-11 record (good for second place in the Eastern Conference) and an NBA Cup title this year.
Hart suffered the ankle injury during the fourth quarter of his team's 126-124 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Christmas Day when he drove and accidentally stepped on Cleveland forward Dean Wade's foot.
James L. Edwards of The Athletic reported on Dec. 27 that Hart was expected to miss at least three games. He added that Hart was "still undergoing further tests and will be reevaluated" after the team's three-game road trip.
That stint has ended, and the shorthanded Knicks, who are also without big man Karl-Anthony Towns (illness), fell at home 111-99 to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.
Now it appears Hart will be out at least one more week. That would keep him out for four games on Saturday (vs. Philadelphia 76ers), Monday (at Detroit Pistons), Wednesday (vs. Los Angeles Clippers) and Friday (at Phoenix Suns).
Hopefully he returns to 100 percent health ASAP. Thankfully, Hart has returned to doing some light work, so he's certainly progressing after the injury on Christmas Day.
