Luka Doncic Injury Update, Latest on Lakers Star's Status vs. Trail Blazers Amid Groin Ailment
Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić is day-to-day after suffering a groin injury, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. Head coach JJ Redick added that an MRI on Dončić was "good."
Doncic has also been ruled out for Saturday's road game against the Portland Trail Blazers with left groin soreness, the team announced.
Dončić previously missed time this season due to a calf contusion and left finger sprain as well as a lower left leg contusion.
Injuries haven't been a major issue for the five-time All-Star in recent years, as he appeared in at least 65 games during each season from 2020-24. It's worth noting that Dončić was limited to just 50 total appearances in his 2024-25 campaign due to a calf strain, though.
The 26-year-old still hasn't let health woes impact his on-court performance during his first full season with the Lakers following their blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks to acquire him on Feb. 2.
Dončić has averaged an NBA-high 33.5 points per game while contributing 7.7 rebounds, 8.7 assists and 1.6 steals per contest through 32 games this season. He is shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 33.4 percent from behind the arc.
His individual output has been a key reason for the Lakers' success to open the season. The team currently owns a 24-15 record, although they have recently lost eight of their last 13 games.
Jake LaRavia is available to fill in as part of Los Angeles' starting lineup in place of Dončić, while LeBron James will take on even more offensive responsibilities moving forward.
