Tony Hawk Makes Ballet Debut, Skateboards on Stage in 'The Nutcracker' on Video
Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk helped to put a modern spin on a local production of The Nutcracker.
"I was invited to do a "cameo" in @goldenstateballet's Nutcracker performance in San Diego," he posted on Instagram. "Sometimes you just have to say yes to things WAY outside your comfort zone, especially when your daughter thinks is funny."

When first composing The Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky probably didn't envision a quarterpipe being included in the stage construction.
"On the night of the performance, over 2,300 audience members filled the @sdcivictheatre, witnessing a moment where ballet and skate culture collided in the most extraordinary way," the Golden State Ballet said. "Tony Hawk brought people together across generations and communities. This will be a memory that will live on for years to come.
"This is why we do what we do. The performing arts thrive when we dare to innovate, when we invite new audiences in, and when we bridge worlds that might not normally meet. By honoring tradition while embracing bold ideas, we keep ballet alive, relevant, and accessible."
Involving Hawk in last Saturday's performance certainly helped to grab headlines. Those in attendance might already be wondering if another surprise is in store next Christmas.
