Should John Cena Be on WWE's Mt. Rushmore?
A lot of wrestling fans and wrestlers have shared who is on their personal Mount Rushmore of professional wrestling, which is just another way of saying who they think are the four greatest Superstars of all time.
A lot of names show up regularly when people do this. For old school fans, names like Bruno Sammartino and Ric Flair are common. Fans who grew up watching The Attitude Era might have someone like The Rock or Steve Austin on their list. For younger fans, names like Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson might pop up.
John Cena is enjoying the final year of his wrestling career with a retirement tour that will end this weekend with his match against Gunther at Saturday Night's Main Event.
The 17-time world champion has been a polarizing figure for the majority of his career, but does he belong on the Mt. Rushmore of WWE? Let's look at a few ways this can be judged.
The Numbers
1 of 5
One way to measure success in any sport is statistics. While pro wrestling may be pre-determined, people certainly use stats to judge careers just like they would with anything. Here are some numbers that sum up Cena's career.
If we are just going by numbers and records, Cena definitely deserves a spot on the mountain.
Dedication to WWE
2 of 5
If there is one thing that is said by just about everyone who has worked with Cena, it's that he is one of the hardest-working guys in the business.
Cena has been waving the WWE flag since day one and continues to do so to this day. Even after he retires, he will likely continue to be an ambassador for the company and make occasional appearances to help out.
We have never heard of a single rumor of Cena wanting to leave WWE throughout his tenure. Even when TNA and AEW were at their hottest, his dedication never wavered.
Pro wrestling, and WWE specifically, have given the 17-time champion everything he could want in life, including the ability to transition into a career as an actor.
Cena is the ultimate company man, and whether you see that as a good or bad thing is a personal choice, but there is no denying how dedicated he has been to WWE.
Work Ethic
3 of 5We already mentioned how Cena is seen as one of the hardest working guys in the business, but that goes beyond the ring.
He has done countless interviews, charity events, autograph signings, convention appearances, Make-A-Wish events and just about every other kind of media appearance you can imagine.
Some people seem like they enjoy the grind, and Cena is one of them. Much like The Rock, it feels like there is nothing Cena won't do to promote a project in an attempt to make it successful.
You don't get to where he is without countless hours of hard work. Cena appears to be willing to put in as much effort as it takes to get anything done, and that is something that's hard not to respect about him.
Bayley recently hosted a seminar for women in pro wrestling and she spoke highly of Cena spending eight hours watching matches and offering advice. He has a very busy schedule, so to set aside a whole day to go help out like that shows you just how much he really loves this business.
A Powerhouse In More Ways Than One
4 of 5
He has never been a technical wizard like Bryan Danielson, a high-flyer like Rey Mysterio, or a dangerous striker like Ken Shamrock, but one thing Cena has always had is immense power.
We've seen him pick up the biggest Superstars WWE can throw at him and slam them to the mat so many times that we are all used to it now, but it's no less impressive than when Hulk Hogan slammed Andre the Giant.
In fact, Cena has performed even bigger feats of strength than that. He has hit the AA on two people at the same time more than once, and he has picked up guys who were just as big as Andre on his shoulders many times.
Even though we are at a point when a wrestler of any size can be successful based on their skill, pro wrestling will always be dominated by powerhouse performers.
Is John Cena Worthy of Being on the WWE Mount Rushmore?
5 of 5Cena has done it all and then some. If we are only looking at WWE and not pro wrestling as a whole, Cena absolutely belongs on Mt. Rushmore.
His reliability as a performer, his dedication to his career, and his charitable endeavors have set Cena apart from the majority of WWE Superstars.
After his final match this Saturday, it wouldn't be surprising to hear of Cena being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame next year.
