Morris will continue to coach for North Texas for the rest of the 2025 season before joining the Cowboys, per Thamel.

He's in the midst of his third season with the Mean Green, helping them post a 10-1 record after going 11-14 over the past two years. Morris previously served as head coach of Incarnate Word from 2018-21 and operated as Washington State's offensive coordinator in 2022.

He'll be the full-time replacement for Mike Gundy, who was fired by Oklahoma State on Sept. 23.

Morris also spent time as Texas Tech's offensive coordinator from 2014-17.

Oklahoma State athletic director Chad Weiberg praised the coach's track record when introducing him.

"Today begins the next era of Oklahoma State Football," Weiberg said as part of Tuesday's announcement. "I am thrilled to introduce Eric Morris, his wife Maggie and their boys Jack and George to the OSU Family. Coach Morris has proven his ability to build and lead winning football programs. He has consistently identified, recruited, and developed some of the best players in college football."

The quick turnaround of North Texas under Morris has been particularly impressive considering the team didn't post a winning record in any of the four seasons prior to his arrival.

The Mean Green have thrived offensively in 2025, as their averages of 46.3 points and 503.3 total yards per game are both the best in the country.

Morris' tenure at Incarnate Word was also immensely successful, helping the team reach the FCS playoffs twice while earning a pair of Southland Conference Coach of the Year awards.

He's known for his work with quarterbacks, as he's spent time either coaching, developing or recruiting signal-callers such as Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward and John Mateer.

As for Oklahoma State, it currently sits at the bottom of the Big 12 standings with a 1-10 record to go along with an 0-8 mark against conference foes.
