NBA Rumors: Latest Buzz on David Lee, Nick Young and More

Chris RolingJul 24, 2015

As the summer progresses, it seems baseball and its approaching trade deadline take over the highlights and basketball fades to the background.

Just don't expect the Association to shut down.

There are still plenty of moves for teams to make. With the Las Vegas Summer League in the books, teams have new film to go over and ways to increase depth. Deals in the works for a long time can still go through. Teams on the hunt for a trade, either to boost postseason potential or rebuild, are still out there.

Knicks Haven't Lost in a Month 🤷‍♂️

Here's a look at the latest.

Nick Young Saga Concludes?

It seems the drama surrounding Nick Young will come to an end.

For weeks, if not months, trade speculation has surrounded the Los Angeles Lakers forward. There are plenty of reasons—his contract, eccentric ways on and off the court and the way he might mesh with the new-look roster, especially after the addition of stout sixth man Lou Williams.

Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News reports Young had a meeting with Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak. His sources detail the context: "But the conversation at least left Young feeling comfortable enough that he will enter the 2015-16 season on the Lakers’ roster, according to a source familiar with his thinking."

It's a step in the right direction for the two sides if either party needs to patch things over. Remember, not too long ago, Kupchak stressed the importance of change from Young, per the Lakers:

Last year, Young struggled to average 13.4 points per game on 11.3 shots per night. He's a volume shooter, and if he cannot prove more efficient and better on the defensive end, Williams will steal his role.

For now, it sounds like the drama can subside, which puts the focus back where it should be—on the court.

Justin Hamilton Close to Deal?

Justin Hamilton isn't the biggest name left on the market per se, but he might be in a literal sense at 7'0" and 255 pounds.

Such size and the LSU product's age of 25 will always garner attention this time of year, so it makes plenty of sense that the Phoenix Suns seem to have an interest. Darren Wolfson of 1500ESPN reported the rumblings:

Wolfson goes on to note in another tweet that Hamilton's preference is to remain with the NBA.

The good news for Hamilton? While he's been a journeyman so far in his NBA career, he played some big minutes down the stretch last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The result was a season tally of 9.0 points and 5.1 rebounds with a player efficiency rating of 14.67, per ESPN.com.

In other words, the Association saw something it liked from the big man. This seems to be especially the case for the Phoenix Suns.

The question for Hamilton becomes playing time. With the Suns, he would be stuck behind Tyson Chandler and Alex Len, whereas Spain might offer more opportunities to see the court. It's no easy decision and one of the summer's more intriguing.

David Lee Update

One of the summer's more interesting trades sounds like it will hit "complete" status soon.

The Golden State Warriors looked to more of a small-ball approach this past season en route to the title, which left 32-year-old forward David Lee out to dry, or in layman's terms, on the bench.

Lee played along, though, and won a title, and it was no secret plenty of teams would have an interest in rescuing him from the situation. The Warriors struck a deal with the Boston Celtics, and according to ESPN's Marc Stein, the agreement will go final soon:

It's about time, right?

But in all seriousness, call it a great deal for the Celtics, a team in need of strong veteran presences to help guide a young roster with young names such as Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier and R.J. Hunter.

Lee can post solid numbers when he gets a chance. Two seasons ago, he averaged 18.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor.

With Amir Johnson and Jared Sullinger also vying for playing time, it's hard to know how much he will see the floor, but at the least, Lee is a strong depth and mentor presence to have who also happens to be a known commodity when he gets the nod.
