Former NFL QB Kordell Stewart Reportedly Linked to Colorado State HC Job, Hires Agent
Former NFL quarterback Kordell Stewart is reportedly set to try his hand at coaching college football.
According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, Stewart has "interest" in the head coach opening at Colorado State and has retained Young Money APAA Sports for his representation.
Anderson added that Stewart "has already assembled a veteran staff of prominent NCAA [and] NFL coaches" and he prepares to pursue a college football head coaching position.
Before making it to the NFL, Stewart starred at Colorado from 1991 to 1994 and earned second-team All-American honors in his final season. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 1995 NFL draft, and he also played for the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens during his 11-year tenure in the league.
Earlier this year, Stewart joined South Forsyth High School in Georgia as a voluntary offensive coordinator. Upon his hiring, he said, "This will be a great challenge, to come up here and participate and taking my experience as a player like they are now, I once was, to now becoming a coach and giving all those concepts and ideas, and football IQ."
It appears that the 53-year-old is ready for a new challenge. Colorado State fired head coach Jay Norvell last month and now has a 2-7 record, including a 1-4 record in Mountain West play.
While Stewart spent his collegiate playing days as a rival of the Rams, he could be next in line to try to turn around the program if he's hired as Colorado State's head coach.
