Report: McRoberts Not Being Offered in Trades
Monday, July 11
While the Heat are fervently attempting to deal point guards Mario Chalmers and Shabazz Napier, they aren't eager to ship McRoberts out of South Beach, per the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson.
McRoberts just signed a four-year, $23 million deal with Miami last summer and hardly played in 2014-15, limited to just 17 games because of a torn right meniscus. The 28-year-old veteran recently expressed optimism about his future with the team.
"I'm excited. I think everybody is excited," said McRoberts, per Bleacher Report's Ethan J. Skolnick. "I think (Spoelstra) will have fun coming up [with] all the lineups."
ESPN.com's Michael Wallace implicated in his recent roster analysis that coach Erik Spoelstra may have a hard time pleasing everyone:
The 4 position was rather depleted for the Heat this last season because of health problems for McRoberts and All-Star Chris Bosh. If all goes according to plan, McRoberts seems destined for solid minutes off the bench, though it depends how the Heat work newly arrived big man Amar'e Stoudemire into the rotation.
When McRoberts does enter the game, Miami won't have to alter its offense too much—and that's a good thing. His versatility and perimeter-shooting ability are similar to that of Bosh's, providing the Heat with more of a multifaceted offense.
Coach Spoelstra is known more for how well his teams play on the other end of the court, evident in Miami's sixth-ranked scoring defense. Having a malleable forward like McRoberts in the fold is smart for depth and a scoring spark for the second unit, so it makes sense the Heat aren't adamant about moving him at this time.
