Kris Statlander Beats Mercedes Mone to Retain AEW Women's Title at Full Gear 2025
Kris Statlander defeated Mercedes Moné at Full Gear on Saturday to retain the AEW Women's World Championship.
Statlander vs. Moné is a rivalry renewed, as they were engaged in a feud over the TBS Championship one year ago. Mercedes got the better of Statlander back then, beating her to retain at both Full Gear 2024 and Worlds End 2024.
The CEO has continued her dominant TBS title reign since then, while also accruing numerous other championships from promotions across the globe.
Entering Full Gear, the one major title that Mercedes had yet to capture was the AEW Women's World Championship, as she fell short in her one previous attempt against Toni Storm at All In.
While Moné was unable to get the job done against Storm, Statlander broke through at All Out, winning a four-way match that included Storm, Jamie Hayter and Thekla to become AEW women's world champ for the first time.
Since there was some thought that the manner in which she won the title may have been a fluke, Statlander sought to prove herself once and for all in a singles bout against Storm at WrestleDream last month.
Statlander did precisely that by beating Storm cleanly, but her celebration was cut short by Moné, who made her way to the ring for her open challenge match.
After a tense stare-down between Mercedes and Statlander, Moné went on to beat Mina Shirakawa to retain the TBS Championship and add the interim ROH Women's Television Championship to her collection of belts.
For all the titles she had in her possession, none measured up to the importance of the AEW Women's World Championship, and Moné got the opportunity to finally add that to her list of accolades.
However, Statlander was up to the task, and with successful title defenses over Storm and Moné now to her credit, there is no denying her legitimacy as a champion.
