Tom Aspinall's Dad Says UFC Star 'Can't See' Out of Right Eye After Poke By Ciryl Gane
UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall still cannot see out of his right eye after he suffered an eye poke from Ciryl Gane during their UFC 321 title fight on Saturday.
"It's not good," Aspinall's father and head coach, Andy, said in a video posted Tuesday (h/t ESPN's Brett Okamoto).
"His right eye, he can't see anything. It's just gray. [Doctors] tested him on words, and he just couldn't see anything. His left eye is 50 percent. It went about four letters [down the chart] and then he couldn't see letters. So, one is really, really blurry—and one is not working."

Okamoto noted Aspinall was taken to the hospital Saturday following the fight, which was ruled a no-contest because he could not continue after he was accidentally poked in both eyes in the first round.
It was a highly anticipated matchup as Aspinall's first official title defense, which was also his first fight since knocking out Curtis Blaydes in July 2024.
While he ended up retaining his belt with the no contest, it surely wasn't how he planned on doing so. And now his status moving forward is a question mark as he recovers from the eye injury he suffered.
It was Gane's first fight since December, which is when he defeated Alexander Volkov in a controversial split decision.
According to Okamoto, the UFC plans on booking a rematch between the two fighters when Aspinall is healthy enough to return to the Octagon.
