Deion Sanders Criticized By CFB Fans as Colorado Gets Blown Out vs. Utah
Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes had a Saturday road trip to forget thanks to an ugly 53-7 loss to the Utah Utes.
Colorado managed just three first downs and minus-18 total yards of offense, including minus-41 rushing yards, at halftime, while Utah dominated with 16 first downs and 398 total yards.
The home team cruised from there and rotated in a number of players in a game that was well in hand. As for Colorado, quarterbacks Ryan Staub and Kaidon Salter combined to go 13-of-30 for 102 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception.
The running game was arguably even worse with 38 yards on 38 carries.
On their way to falling to 3-5, Sanders and the Buffaloes were criticized for a rough showing that set the stage for a blowout.
The Buffalos punted on their first three possessions in the first quarter and threw an interception to close out the period.
Their first possession of the second quarter resulted in a safety, and the Buffaloes punted four more times before halftime in one of the worst first halves for any team this season.
At that point, the second half was just an exercise in futility.
Utah took its collective foot off the gas, which was a merciful decision for a Colorado team that couldn't generate any momentum on either side of the ball. The Buffaloes finally got in the end zone when Staub ran it in in the fourth quarter, although Utah's late touchdown run added insult to injury.
The Buffaloes now need to win three of their final four games to make a bowl during a stretch that starts Saturday with a home game against Arizona.
