Nick Saban's Wife Terry Jokes About CFB Icon Possibly Taking PSU HC Job in Video

Mike ChiariOct 18, 2025

Nick Saban's wife, Terry Saban, addressed speculation Saturday about her husband possibly taking the vacant head coaching job at Penn State.

During a segment on ESPN College GameDay, host Pat McAfee brought up the conjecture, which prompted Nick to shake his head. McAfee then directed the conversation toward Terry to get her thoughts:

"I have no doubt if Nick wanted to go back to coaching, he could win his eighth national championship," Terry said. "But we're having too much fun and we wouldn't want to take the opportunity away from all of our baby coaches."

Terry ended by joking that she hasn't "heard a number yet" regarding a monetary offer from Penn State, and Nick followed up saying, "Mrs. Always Right has spoken."

Lane Kiffin, one of those "baby coaches" in question, posted his appreciation for Terry's comments:

Nick Saban, 73, is one of the most successful college football coaches of all time. He is best known for his 17 seasons at Alabama, but he also thrived at Toledo, Michigan State and LSU.

Overall, Saban has a career record of 292-71-1 with seven national titles and 11 SEC titles to his credit.

During his final 13 seasons at Bama, Saban never lost more than two games in a single year. Despite still being at the top of his game and Alabama being the most desirable job in college football, he stepped away after the 2023 season and got into broadcasting.

Penn State is also one of the top jobs given that it is one of the best programs in the Big Ten, but the Nittany Lions haven't won a national championship since 1986.

Perhaps money could change Saban's mind and lure him back into coaching, but the comments he made Saturday suggest that may be highly unlikely.

James Franklin, who was fired from the Penn State head coaching position this past Sunday, appeared on Saturday's edition of College GameDay, and Saban expressed his belief that Penn State was wrong for parting ways with him.

According to Tyler Donohue of 247Sports, Saban said, "It's unfair as hell for you to go to the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, get to the Final 4, come out being ranked [high] this year—an expectation that you created by what you accomplished. For those people not to show enough appreciation and gratitude, it's unfair."

Given Saban's criticism of Penn State and support for Franklin, it is difficult to envision him turning around and taking the PSU job.

Even though Penn State may not be able to get arguably the best college football coach of all time, it should have no problem finding a high-profile replacement for Franklin.

The Nittany Lions won double-digit games in three straight seasons entering 2025, and they have the resources needed to recruit and compete at a high level.

This season's 3-3 start came as a shock after reaching the College Football Playoff semifinals last season, but perhaps a new voice in the locker room will help to get Penn State back where it belongs.
