Oregon's Dan Lanning, Pat McAfee Go Shirtless to Hype Crowd in College GameDay Video
Much like Matthew McConaughey in a 2000s romantic-comedy, Pat McAfee can't stop taking off his shirt and he had a partner join him on College Gameday.
With ESPN's signature preview show airing in Eugene this week ahead of the Ducks' showdown with Indiana, McAfee and Oregon head coach Dan Lanning hyped up the crowd by standing on chairs and taking off their shirts.
Considering Gameday went on the air at 6 a.m. local time, the enthusiasm from Lanning and the crowd in attendance is something to behold.
The shirtless Lanning also showed off the famous tattoo of his wife on his ribs that he got in 2023. His ink also includes symbols from all the colleges he has worked at over the years, as well as the names of his three children.
In the wake of Lee Corso's retirement, which took away the weekly headgear pick, the signature moment on College Gameday each week now is becoming McAfee taking off his shirt.
This marks at least the third time so far this season that McAfee's top has come off at some point on the broadcast. He ended the Sept. 20 episode from Coral Gables by picking Miami to beat Florida, then jumping into the Hurricanes' pool from a high dive wearing only a Speedo.
The next week in Happy Valley, while wearing a white suit, McAfee took his dress shirt off while picking Penn State to beat Lanning's Ducks.
Given that McAfee's energy is very much that of a pro wrestler, it's not a surprise that he would choose to go without a shirt as often as he does. He is only 1-1 in picking games that inspire him to take off his top, with Penn State letting him down in a 30-24 double-overtime loss to Oregon.
Saturday's shirtless moment with Lanning doesn't qualify as a prediction, but it may have helped McAfee endear himself to the Oregon faithful after betting against them the last time Gameday was at the site where it was playing.
Lanning, meanwhile, seems perfectly calm and ready to lead the third-ranked Ducks into their matchup with No. 7 Indiana at Autzen Stadium on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
