This was a great showing from both wrestlers.
In the end, Fletcher successfully defended the belt.
Dating back to last year, Fletcher and Briscoe have clashed on multiple occasions, and entering WrestleDream, they were on equal footing.
Briscoe was victorious the first two times they met with wins in June 2024 and December 2024. The first was a successful ROH World Championship defense for Briscoe, and the second was a triumph in the Continental Classic Blue League.
However, Fletcher bounced back with a pair of wins over Briscoe this year, beating him on a February episode of Collision and at Dynasty in April.
Prior to WrestleDream, Fletcher and Briscoe were involved in other rivalries with Fletcher unsuccessfully challenging "Hangman" Adam Page for the AEW world title at All Out and Briscoe defeating MJF in a Tables 'n' Tacks match on that same show.
The paths of Fletcher and Briscoe crossed again recently, though, following a TNT title defense on the Oct. 7 Title Tuesday edition of Dynamite.
Fletcher beat Kyle O'Reilly to retain the TNT Championship, but that wasn't satisfying enough, prompting Fletcher and the Don Callis Family to launch an attack against O'Reilly.
That led to members of The Conglomeration, including Briscoe, running out to even the odds and fight off the Callis Family.
Amid the chaos, Fletcher and Briscoe came face to face in a tense moment, but Fletcher backed off and left with his title.
During a backstage interview after the match, Fletcher denied being afraid of Briscoe and noted that he had beaten Briscoe twice. However, Renee Paquette reminded Fletcher that Briscoe had beaten him two times as well, and she announced that AEW President Tony Khan made Fletcher vs. Briscoe official for WrestleDream.
Saturday represented the rubber match between Fletcher and Briscoe, and it was Fletcher who prevailed to continue his reign as TNT champion.
