Cooper Hackett Commits to Oklahoma, Flips from Texas Tech, 5-Star CFB OT Prospect
One month after committing to Texas Tech, offensive tackle prospect Cooper Hackett has had a change of heart.
Hackett told Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.com he has flipped his commitment to Oklahoma.
Hackett is a 5-star prospect and No. 10 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.
Hackett was one of two significant 2027 additions on the offensive line for Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables. Kaeden Penny, a tackle from Bixby, Oklahoma, confirmed to Fawcett he will also be playing for the Sooners.
Per 247Sports' composite rankings, Penny is a 4-star prospect and No. 45 overall recruit in the '27 class.
It's still early in the 2027 recruiting cycle, but the Sooners are off to a fantastic start. They now have four commits, with Hackett, Penny and wide receiver Demare Dezeurn all rated as 4-star prospects or better.
Fawcett noted on Aug. 30 that Hackett confirmed he was committing to Texas Tech. The announcement was part of a recruiting hot streak for the Red Raiders, who received a commitment from 2026 offensive tackle prospect Felix Ojo in July.
Hackett, who is from Oklahoma and currently attends Fort Gibson High School, had been considering the Sooners when he originally gave a commitment to Texas Tech.
Florida and Ohio State were also strong contenders for Hackett.
The additions of Penny and Hackett come amid a very good start to this season for Venables. Oklahoma is ranked No. 7 in Associated Press Top 25 with a 4-0 record highlighted by wins over Michigan and Auburn.
