AP College Football Poll 2025 Week 5 Rankings Released with Top Risers and Fallers
Indiana and Illinois moved in vastly different directions in the newest Top 25 poll from the Associated Press.
The Hoosiers climbed from 19th to 11th after soundly beating the Fighting Illini 63-10 in Bloomington. Illinois, meanwhile, fell to No. 23 after occupying a Top 10 spot the previous two weeks.
The top five also saw a small shakeup as Miami leapfrogged LSU and Penn State to sit No. 2 behind Ohio State.

Week 4 was light on consequential battles and there weren't any true upsets. Along with Illinois, Auburn (No. 22) and Utah (No. 16) were the other ranked teams to lose, and they likewise came up short against ranked foes.
Granted, nobody saw the one-sided nature of Indiana's win coming. The Hoosiers dropped 35 points in the first half and kept their foot on the gas after halftime, scoring 28 more points unanswered.
"We broke their will," head coach Curt Cignetti told reporters after the game.
Quarterback Fernando Mendoza went 21-of-23 for 267 yards and five touchdowns through the air, while running backs Khobie Martin and Kaelon Black combined to run for 196 yards and average 8.9 yards per carry.
Hoosiers defensive back D'Angelo Ponds lobbied for his team to jump into the Top 10, and the AP voters disagreed.
As with Indiana, Texas Tech beating Utah on the road wasn't a complete shock, but the 24-point margin of victory was larger than expected.
The Red Raiders out-gained the Utes 484-263 after Will Hammond fired the offense into life under center. Coming on for an injured Behren Morton in the third quarter, he engineered four straight scoring drives in the fourth quarter to make this game look more one-sided than it actually was.
The fact that Texas Tech beat a tough road opponent despite playing below its best was a solid endorsement for Joey McGuire's squad, which affirmed its status as a top contender to win the Big 12.
To the northeast, fans in Norman, Oklahoma, are starting to believe that things are finally clicking with head coach Brent Venables.
The Sooners are off to a 4-0 start after beating Auburn 24-17, though Saturday's result wasn't without some controversy.
SEC officials said Oklahoma wide receiver Isaiah Sategna should've drawn a flag when he walked toward the sideline as if getting subbed off, only to catch a wide-open touchdown pass in the second quarter.
Still, there was ample time for Auburn to rebound from that setback and right the ship. The Tigers finished with 287 yards despite having 35:34 of possession, and their 13 penalties for 85 yards didn't help their cause. It's tough to win with numbers like that.
Looking ahead to Week 5, no matchup is bigger than Oregon's trip to Happy Valley to play Penn State.
This is one of the exceptions where the higher-ranked team arguably has more to prove thanks to James Franklin's terrible record against Top-10 teams. The Nittany Lions have the pieces to be a national title contender, but fans will think they've seen this story unfold before if the Ducks come out of Beaver Stadium with the victory.
Over in the SEC, beating No. 5 Georgia would ease some of the pressure on Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer.
The knives were out after the Tide dropped their opener to Florida State, and their 38-14 win over Wisconsin looks less impressive after Badgers fans were calling to fire coach Luke Fickell during a 27-10 defeat to Maryland. Taking down the Bulldogs will ease some of the fears about Year 2 of the DeBoer era.
