B/R's 2025 College Football Experts Top 25 Rankings After Week 4

David KenyonSep 21, 2025

On a day devoid of major surprises, Bleacher Report's Top 25 saw little movement near the top of our weekly rankings.

But there was plenty of activity in the middle of the poll.

Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Indiana all picked up victories over ranked opponents, sending those programs—Utah, Auburn and Illinois, respectively—either falling in the ranking or even completely out.

Bleacher Report's college football crew—David Kenyon, Adam Kramer and Brad Shepard—each submitted a ballot. A first-place vote was worth 25 points, followed by 24 for second and so on.

Nos. 25-21

1 of 11
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 20 Washington at Washington State
Demond Williams Jr.

25. Washington (3-0, Previous Rank: NR)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Washington State (56-24)
Next Week: vs. Ohio State

Given that North Texas throttled Washington State last weekend, it wasn't a surprise to see Washington destroy its rival. Nevertheless, the Dawgs won running away behind Demond Williams Jr., who totaled 386 yards and five touchdowns.

24. Illinois (3-1, Previous Rank: 11)

Week 4 Result: LOSS at Indiana (63-10)
Next Week: vs. USC

Safe to say "historically bad loss" wasn't a part of our expectations for the Illini on Saturday night. Indiana flat-out embarrassed Illinois, which gave up 579 offensive yards and gained just 161 in a very forgettable game.

23. South Florida (3-1, Previous Rank: NR)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. South Carolina State (63-14)
Next Week: Idle

South Florida shook off a blowout loss at Miami with a resounding win over lower-division South Carolina State. Byrum Brown passed for 236 yards and four scores, hitting Chas Nimrod for 119 yards and two touchdowns. USF is the lone Group of Five program in this Top 25.

22. Utah (3-1, Previous Rank: 17)

Week 4 Result: LOSS vs. Texas Tech (34-10)
Next Week: at West Virginia

Utah's defense put up a valiant fight, but the wheels fell off in the fourth quarter of the loss to Texas Tech. Ineffective offense doomed the Utes, who committed four turnovers in the game and ceded 24 points in the final 15 minutes.

21. Louisville (3-0, Previous Rank: 22)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Bowling Green (40-17)
Next Week: at Pitt

Louisville moved past a sluggish start offensively to smack Bowling Green. Miller Moss threw for 316 yards, and Keyjuan Brown rushed for two touchdowns in the blowout win. Plus, the Cardinals snagged two interceptions as Caullin Lacy returned a punt for a score. It was an all-around performance for UL.

Nos. 20-16

2 of 11
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 20 Michigan at Nebraska
Justice Haynes

20. Michigan (3-1, Previous Rank: 24)

Week 4 Result: WIN at Nebraska (30-27)
Next Week: Idle

As coach Sherrone Moore served the second of a two-game suspension, Michigan earned a solid win at Nebraska. The rushing attack carried the Wolverines as Justice Haynes had 149 yards, Jordan Marshall added 80 and Bryce Underwood chipped in 61. Each one scored a touchdown, too.

19. Vanderbilt (4-0, Previous Rank: 21)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Georgia State (70-21)
Next Week: vs. Utah State

My goodness, 'Dores. Seven different players ran in a touchdown for Vandy, which collected 286 yards and eight scores on the ground. All six of the Commodores' first-half drives found the end zone.

18. Georgia Tech (4-0, Previous Rank: 20)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Temple (45-24)
Next Week: at Wake Forest

Georgia Tech snapped its inglorious, decade-long streak of not winning a game as an AP-ranked team on Saturday. Haynes King accounted for three touchdowns, while Tech's running game tallied 307 yards and four scores.

17. Missouri (4-0, Previous Rank: 19)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. South Carolina (29-20)
Next Week: vs. Massachusetts

South Carolina had quarterback LaNorris Sellers available, but Mizzou shut him down. The defense posted five sacks and didn't permit Sellers, a dynamic runner, to have a gain of 10-plus yards on the ground. The rushing-attack theme continues here as Missouri ran for 285 yards in the win.

16. Alabama (2-1, Previous Rank: 15)

Week 4 Result: Idle
Next Week: at Georgia

The season-opening loss to Florida State rattled the cage around Alabama, which bounced back to roll Louisiana-Monroe and Wisconsin. The competition level soars next weekend as the Crimson Tide travel to Georgia.

Nos. 15-11

3 of 11
UAB v Tennessee
Joey Aguilar

15. Ole Miss (4-0, Previous Rank: 14)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Tulane (45-10)
Next Week: at Nebraska

So much for a potential upset! In relief of injured QB Austin Simmons, Trinidad Chambliss again excelled. He threw for 307 yards and two scores, also scampering for 112 yards in the 45-10 demolition of Tulane—which had already defeated two power-conference teams in 2025. Kewan Lacy added 68 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for unbeaten Ole Miss.

14. Iowa State (4-0, Previous Rank: 12)

Week 4 Result: Idle
Next Week: vs. Arizona

Iowa State kicked off the campaign with a Big 12 victory over Kansas State, and now the rest of the conference slate arrives. Arizona comes to Ames for the first contest between the programs since 1968.

13. Tennessee (3-1, Previous Rank: 13)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. UAB (56-24)
Next Week: at Mississippi State

Following a heart-breaking loss to Georgia, Tennessee responded as you'd expect opposite a non-power opponent. Joey Aguilar tossed three touchdowns, and the UT running game controlled the afternoon. Peyton Lewis, DeSean Bishop and Star Thomas each recorded 50-plus yards and scored at least once. The defense piled up nine tackles for loss, including three from Boo Carter.

12. Indiana (4-0, Previous Rank: 18)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Illinois (63-10)
Next Week: at Iowa

Indiana just set a record for the largest margin of victory over a Top 10 team in the history of the sport. Decent night! Fernando Mendoza launched his Heisman Trophy candidacy with a sterling 21-of-23 display, throwing for 267 yards and five touchdowns in the eye-popping rout.

11. Texas Tech (4-0, Previous Rank: 16)

Week 4 Result: WIN at Utah (34-10)
Next Week: Idle

Early kickoff? All good. Altitude? No problem. Starting QB leaves with an injury? Manageable. Will Hammond passed for 169 yards, rushed for 61 yards and scored twice in relief of Behren Morton, and the Red Raiders' transfer-infused defense gave up a modest 267 yards in the triumph at Utah.

Nos. 10-6

4 of 11
Sam Houston v Texas
Jerrick Gibson

10. Texas (3-1, Previous Rank: 7)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Sam Houston (56-0)
Next Week: Idle

At least for a moment, there is a wave of calm running over the Forty Acres. Arch Manning bounced back in a near-perfect night, hitting 18-of-21 attempts for 309 yards and accounting for five touchdowns.

9. Oklahoma (4-0, Previous Rank: 10)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Auburn (24-17)
Next Week: Idle

John Mateer totaled 300 yards and two touchdowns, continuing his early Heisman contention. However, the real story of this contest was an OU defense that racked up 14 tackles for loss. Oklahoma made life miserable for Jackson Arnold, who took 10 sacks against his former team.

8. Florida State (3-0, Previous Rank: 8)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Kent State (66-10)
Next Week: at Virginia

The bad news is quarterback Tommy Castellanos exited with an apparent leg injury in the second quarter and didn't return to the game. The good news is FSU already had a 35-point lead and could rest him. Florida State rushed for an absurd 498 yards and eight touchdowns, totaling 775 yards in the blowout.

7. Texas A&M Aggies (3-0, Previous Rank: 9)

Week 4 Result: Idle
Next Week: vs. Auburn

Following an emotional win at Notre Dame, the Aggies had a Saturday to rest. Texas A&M is set to host Auburn next weekend, opening a stretch of three straight games at Kyle Field—with Mississippi State and Florida to follow.

6. Oregon (4-0, Previous Rank: 6)

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Oregon State (41-7)
Next Week: at Penn State

Oregon dominated the in-state rivalry for the third consecutive year. Dante Moore passed for 305 yards and four touchdowns, and three receivers ended with at least 60 yards and a score. Most impressively, the Ducks outgained Oregon State with a staggering 585 yards to just 147.

5. LSU (4-0, Previous Rank: 4)

5 of 11
Florida v LSU

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. SE Louisiana (56-10)
Next Week: at Ole Miss

No issues for LSU in a clash with a lower-division school. Garrett Nussmeier tossed three touchdowns and rushed for a fourth.

Through no fault of their own, the Tigers' splashy win over Clemson is looking less impressive by the week. Fortunately, LSU has a chance to bolster its resume with a trip to Ole Miss next Saturday.

4. Miami (4-0, Previous Rank: 5)

6 of 11
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 20 Florida at Miami

Week 4 Result: WIN vs. Florida (26-7)
Next Week: Idle

Carson Beck struggled to solve a pesky Florida team, but Miami leaned on its running backs and defense to dispatch the Gators.

Mark Fletcher Jr. rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown, while CharMar Brown provided 80 more on the ground with two scores. Brown, a transfer from North Dakota State, also caught four passes for a team-high 53 yards.

Most impressively, the 'Canes yielded only 141 offensive yards to the DJ Lagway-led UF offense and improved to 4-0.

3. Penn State (3-0, Previous Rank: 3)

7 of 11
Villanova v Penn State
Drew Allar

Week 4 Result: Idle
Next Week: vs. Oregon

Oh, buddy, we are ready for this one.

Penn State had a painless nonconference slate of Nevada, Florida International and Villanova. For the Nittany Lions' sake, hopefully that was enough to prepare them for a showdown with fellow Big Ten front-runner Oregon.

2. Georgia (3-0, Previous Rank: 2)

8 of 11
Georgia v Tennessee
Gunner Stockton

Week 4 Result: Idle
Next Week: vs. Alabama

LSU at Ole Miss, Oregon at Penn State and Alabama at Georgia on the same Saturday? What a way to close September.

Georgia, which defeated Tennessee in overtime last week, is looking for another major win. If the Dawgs pull out a victory—and earn a little redemption for the 2024 loss to Bama—it'd be tough to not consider them the SEC favorite.

1. Ohio State (3-0, Previous Rank: 1)

9 of 11
Ohio v Ohio State
Jeremiah Smith

Week 4 Result: Idle
Next Week: at Washington

After opening the campaign with a marquee win over Texas, the Buckeyes rolled past Grambling and Ohio to reach 3-0.

Now, the fun begins.

Ohio State's first conference test of the season is a trip to Washington, which is also unbeaten after dismantling rival Washington State 59-24 on Saturday.

What's Next

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 20 Tulane at Ole Miss

Dude, so much.

If you're looking for a nice appetizer, check out Friday night's action. Florida State begins ACC play at Virginia, and TCU travels to Arizona State in a showdown between a couple of Big 12 contenders.

Saturday's slate is absolutely loaded, especially in the SEC—although the headline game resides in the Big Ten.

But first, SEC.

During the 3:30 p.m. ET slot, LSU plays at Ole Miss and Auburn goes to Texas A&M. Then, in the evening, Alabama goes to Georgia. A whole lot of narratives are about to be tested in the conference.

Bama/UGA shares the prime-time window with Oregon's trip to Penn State. As if Penn State fans needed any more reason to create a raucous environment, it's the annual White Out night. Happy Valley is certain to be a madhouse, but Oregon is exceptionally talented once again.

Week 5 is destined to shake up the national picture.
