Canada defeats Colombia, 94-56

Canada had no problem punching its ticket to the semifinal with a dominant 84-56 victory over Colombia.

The Canadian defense was overwhelming early, allowing just 25 points in the first half. Colombia shot just 31 percent overall (21.9 percent from behind the three-point line) and was outrebounded 53-23.

Kyshawn George led the offensive attack for Canada with 18 points, six rebounds and five assists in just 19 minutes.

Leonard Miller nearly posted a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Kyle Wiltjer scored 12 points off the bench on 4-of-6 three-point shooting.

Hansel Atencia was the only player for Colombia to score in double figures. He finished with a game-high 19 points and made six of his team's 19 field goals.

Brazil defeats Dominican Republic, 94-82

It seemed like Dominican Republic was going to cruise into the semifinals when it jumped out to a 25-18 lead in the first quarter, but Brazil took the lead by halftime and rolled to a 94-82 victory.

Brazil outscored Dominican Republic by a combined 21 points in the second and third quarters and left little doubt about the outcome by the end.

Yago Santos was unstoppable with 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the victors. He went 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-9 from deep, but it was far from a one-man show.

Dominican Republic also didn't have an answer for Georginho De Paula, who led everyone in scoring with 28 points to go along with seven assists and five rebounds.

Bruno Caboclo also impressed with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Nobody on Dominican Republic scored more than 14 points as Brazil's defense swarmed outside shooters and cut off driving lanes for the majority of the contest after the slow start.

United States defeats Uruguay, 83-70

It looked like the United States' tournament was coming to an end when it entered halftime of Thursday's game against Uruguay with a seven-point deficit, but it dialed up the defensive intensity in the second half and escaped with am 83-70 victory.

Uruguay shot just 36.76 percent from the field and 15 percent from deep as the Americans challenged nearly every look as they came back and then pulled away down the stretch.

While the defense was the story, the Red, White and Blue also received some timely offense to advance to the semifinals.

Javonte Smart led the scoring efforts with 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range, while Zachary Auguste added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Auguste helped control the boards, as did Jack Cooley. The big man grabbed 12 rebounds and helped limit Uruguay's second-chance opportunities.

As a result, the United States is just two wins away from an AmeriCup title.

Argentina defeats Puerto Rico, 82-77 (OT)

It took an overtime period, but Argentina kept its championship hopes alive with an 82-77 victory over Puerto Rico.

Gonzalo Corbalan hit two free throws for Argentina to tie the game in the final 30 seconds and force the extra time. The free throws were the only two points for either team in the last two minutes and 30 seconds.

Juan Fernandez then took over in overtime with six straight points, and Argentina never looked back on the way to the win.

Fernandez and Jose Vildoza each scored 18 points as two of the five Argentina players to score in double figures. Nicolas Brussino was another, as he notched a double-double of 11 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks and three steals.

Jose Alvarado, who is a familiar name for NBA fans, scored 25 points for Puerto Rico, but it wasn't enough to avoid elimination.
