Fleetwood made his 164th career start on the PGA Tour in the event, but had yet to capture a title. He came close several times, recording 30 top-five finishes and six runner-up results without a victory. This included a No. 2 finish at the Travelers Championship in June.
His first win came relatively easily after a series of narrow defeats, ending the Tour Championship with a three-shot lead over the rest of the field.
"When you've lost it so many times, three strokes on the last doesn't seem like that many," Fleetwood said following his victory, via Yahoo Sports' Jay Busbee. "This is just hopefully one win, the first of many to come."
Fleetwood was tied with Patrick Cantlay at the top of the leaderboard following the third round, but gained some separation with three birdies across his first seven holes in Round 4.
A bogey on hole No. 10 cut Fleetwood's lead over Cantlay to just one stroke, but he racked up birdies on two of the next three holes to gain some more separation once again.
Scottie Scheffler won the FedEx Cup title in 2024 and sat at No. 5 on the leaderboard through Saturday's action, but ultimately couldn't close the gap between himself and Fleetwood.
