Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis Set for Netflix Exhibition Boxing Fight on Nov. 14
Jake Paul is set to test himself against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis.
On Wednesday, Netflix announced an exhibition bout slated for State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Nov. 14.
This will undoubtedly be the biggest test of Paul's boxing career.
Davis is 30-0-1 as a pro with 28 knockouts. The 30-year-old is coming off a draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March but had scored back-to-back KOs of Ryan Garcia and Frank Martin before that.
Tank is a big step up from Julio César Chávez Jr., a 58-year-old Mike Tyson and former MMA fighters with limited boxing experience.
After the Tyson fight, Davis called out Paul, calling him a "bozo."
The weight difference between Paul and Davis is glaring, though, and the fight's exhibition status is likely to have fans asking the same old questions about the event's sporting merit.
Davis will undoubtedly secure a massive payday, but beating Paul will do little to boost his in-ring reputation. If anything, pursuing this opportunity will just increase the perception he's trying to avoid WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson or a rematch with Roach at all costs.
Roach seemingly thinks Davis isn't keen on a rematch, hinting in a social media post that Davis is ducking the fight:
On the other side, Paul probably won't get a ton of credit even if he knocks Davis out because of his significant size advantage. An exhibition victory wouldn't count toward his official record, either.
