Bryson DeChambeau Says He Wants to Play PGA Tour Event to Prep for 2025 Ryder Cup

Joseph ZuckerAug 16, 2025

Bryson DeChambeau lamented how the ongoing cold war between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour is standing in the way of him getting some work with his prospective teammates ahead of the Ryder Cup.

United States captain Keegan Bradley told Sports Illustrated's Bob Harig he would like for any American players in the Ryder Cup picture to compete in the Procore Championship, which tees off on Sept. 11.

That's a problem for DeChambeau because it's a PGA Tour event.

"That's up to the Tour and their decision to make," he said to John Schwarb of Sports Illustrated. "It's on them if they don't let us become together as a team and play."

The two-time U.S. Open champion added that "it's a scenario that's unfortunate" and said LIV officials are willing to let him take part in the Procore Championship.

It's true the ball is in the PGA Tour's court and the organization could very easily allow DeChambeau to receive a sponsor's exemption next month in Napa, California.

But DeChambeau is the one who originally set all of this in motion by aligning with a rival golf series in the first place. He and his LIV cohorts knew that breaking away from the PGA Tour would come with consequences. To quote Don Draper, that's what the money is for.

Within a Ryder Cup context, the U.S. team isn't the only one who has been impacted by the prolonged standoff between golf's two biggest tours, either.

Henrik Stenson lost his captaincy for Team Europe ahead of the 2023 Ryder Cup, while two-time major champion Jon Rahm is on the bubble because he hasn't accumulated enough points to be an automatic qualifier.

DeChambeau is all but assured of a spot on Team USA at Bethpage Black in New York, so his LIV affiliation hasn't hurt him in that regard. In terms of his Ryder Cup preparations, it's ultimately not the fault of the PGA Tour if he can't sharpen up his skills in a Tour-aligned event.
