The first singles match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar in over a decade is reportedly planned to take place next month.
According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t WrestlePurists), Cena vs. Lesnar is in the works for a Sept. 20 premium live event that WWE has yet to announce.
Cena vs. Lesnar will reportedly be the main event of that show, which is why WWE opted to hold Lesnar off of this month's Clash in Paris PLE in favor of doing Cena vs. Logan Paul.
On Monday, Post Wrestling's John Pollock and Brandon Thurston reported that the Sept. 20 WWE PLE will be held in Indianapolis on the same day AEW is staging All Out in Toronto.
It isn't yet known if the WWE show and All Out will air head-to-head or at different times of day, but a main event of Cena vs. Lesnar would undoubtedly be a huge draw in WWE's favor regardless.
At SummerSlam this month, Lesnar made his first appearance on WWE programming in two years by attacking Cena following Cena's loss to Cody Rhodes in the main event.
Lesnar has long been viewed as one of Cena's biggest rivals, as they've done battle in televised singles matches on seven occasions.
At Extreme Rules 2012, Cena upset Lesnar in his first match back in WWE since 2004, but Lesnar got revenge by decimating Cena at SummerSlam 2014 and then beating Cena and Seth Rollins in a Triple Threat match at Royal Rumble 2015.
Cena is nearing the end of his illustrious in-ring career, as the 17-time world champion will retire at the end of the year.
That means he has only a handful of matches remaining, and a potential final clash with Lesnar is one of the biggest bouts WWE can possibly deliver.
Whatever happens in the match between Cena and Lesnar will go a long way toward setting the stage for what the final three months of Cena's career will look like.
Kross, Scarlett WWE Departures Reportedly Believed to Be Legitimate
While WWE has pulled off some extravagant works recently, including Seth Rollins' fake injury, it doesn't appear as though the expiration of Karrion Kross' and Scarlett's contracts fall into that category.
According to WrestleVotes, people they have spoken to in WWE corporate are "under the impression" that Kross and Scarlett are actually gone from the company.
On Sunday, the WWE.com profiles of Kross and Scarlett were moved to the alumni section, which is normally a sign that a talent is no longer with WWE.
It wasn't a particularly shocking development, given that Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported that the contracts of Kross and Scarlett were set to expire over the weekend.
While Fightful reported at the time that Kross and Scarlett had not been approached with contract offers, Meltzer (h/t WrestlePurists) later reported that an offer was made, although the terms were unknown.
After news of Kross and Scarlett leaving WWE broke, Kross posted a video on his YouTube channel Monday in which he confirmed it and gave his take on how things went down:
Kross' last appearance on WWE programming was at SummerSlam earlier this month when he faced Sami Zayn in a rubber match after they previously traded wins.
In the weeks and months prior, Kross had been getting under Zayn's skin by making assumptions about his character and by attacking him backstage.
Their match came with the stipulation that Kross would have to admit he was wrong about Zayn if he lost, but even though Zayn was victorious, the stipulation was never satisfied.
Of course, it is possible Kross and Scarlett could work something out with WWE and resurface in the near future, but now that they are free agents, they are free to sign elsewhere with AEW, TNA, MLW and many other promotions being potential options.
Lola Vice Reportedly Signs New WWE Contract
NXT star Lola Vice reportedly landed a new WWE contract recently, extending her stay with the company.
According to PWInsider Elite (h/t Carrier), Vice's contract had been set to expire this summer, but she inked a new deal before that happened.
No other details regarding the contract are known publicly at this time, including the length and whether it is an NXT or WWE main roster deal.
Vice, 27, originally signed with WWE in 2022 following a successful foray into the world of MMA.
Fighting under her real name, Valerie Loureda, Vice went 4-1 with two wins by way of knockout during her professional MMA career with Bellator.
Vice won the NXT Women's Breakout Tournament in 2023, and while she has yet to win a championship in WWE, she has established herself as one of the most popular members of the NXT women's division.
She is continuing to develop and seemingly has the potential to be a top star on the main roster in the future, so it comes as little surprise that WWE wanted to keep her in the fold and continue building the positive momentum.
