UFC's Sean Strickland Suspended Indefinitely After Altercation at Tuff-N-Uff Fight
Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has been suspended from competition by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after an altercation with another fighter at an MMA event last month, per ESPN's Brett Okamoto.
At the Tuff-N-Uff event in Las Vegas on June 29, Strickland, who was coaching Miles Hunsinger, entered the cage and attacked Luis Hernandez, who had just defeated Hunsinger. After the fight, Hernandez celebrated the win by taunting Hunsinger's corner, which led to Strickland approaching and punching him.
According to Okamoto, "it is common practice for the commission to suspend a licensed athlete or cornerman until issuing an official punishment at a disciplinary hearing." Strickland's case was on the Nevada State Athletic Commission's schedule for Wednesday's meeting, but the commission voted to move the hearing to a later date.
Despite the run-in with Strickland, Hernandez said he doesn't feel Strickland should receive punishment from the commission.
“I really have nothing towards them, and hope the commission does not," he told MMAFighting.com. "...Like they even asked me, ‘Hey, you’re gonna press charges?’ I’m like, ‘What? No.’ I would never want anything to happen to these guys because I actually like them, and I hope they watch this,” Hernandez said. “I have nothing against Sean, nothing against Chris, nothing against Xtreme Couture. I like those guys."
Strickland, 34, has a 29-7 career record. He won the UFC middleweight championship at UFC 293 in 2023 when he defeated Israel Adesanya, but lost that title in January 2024 when he fell to Dricus Du Plessis.
He had a chance to reclaim the middleweight championship at UFC 312 in February, but once again lost to Du Plessis in a unanimous decision.
