The 7 Results We Want to See at WWE SummerSlam 2025

Graham GSM MatthewsJul 20, 2025

Two weeks out from WWE's biggest party of the summer, the first-ever two-night installment of SummerSlam is shaping up to be a stacked show with everything that's being built up on Raw and SmackDown at the moment.

The WrestleMania 41 rematch between John Cena and Cody Rhodes is set for the show with an added Street Fight stipulation.

Will Cena continue to hold the gold hostage ahead of his looming retirement or can Rhodes regain the title and avenge his embarrassing loss from The Grandest Stage of Them All?

Fresh off retiring Goldberg at Saturday Night's Main Event, Gunther has officially found his next challenger in CM Punk. The Voice of the Voiceless will have his work cut out for him against the dominant champ, especially with the potentially-not-so-injured Seth Rollins waiting in the wings with a guaranteed title shot at anytime as Mr. Money in the Bank.

A slew of other marquee matches have already been confirmed for the card including Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill for the WWE Women's Championship, Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria for the Women's World Championship, and Solo Sikoa vs. Jacob Fatu inside a steel cage for the United States Championship.

From shocking match outcomes to significant storyline developments, these are the seven results we want to see at SummerSlam 2025.

John Cena Loses Undisputed WWE Championship Back to Cody Rhodes

1 of 7
SmackDown

What should have been a historic heel run for John Cena has instead turned into a colossal disappointment. Although it's had some bright spots here and there, his reign as undisputed WWE champion has largely left a lot to be desired.

That's why WWE must pull the plug on both on the sooner side, and SummerSlam is a suitable stage with that being where Cody Rhodes will get his rematch for the title.

It was determined on Friday's SmackDown that it'll be a Street Fight when they wage war once more. Although that leaves the door open for the usual interference, it's more important to give Rhodes a decisive victory over Cena so the torch can be passed and their rivalry can be wrapped up once and for all.

That can also be done by having Cena endorse Rhodes afterward, which would effectively turn him back babyface. The GOAT should be a fan favorite again for the final few months of his in-ring career, especially since he has not been a natural in the heel role whatsoever.

This would be the best way to close out Night 2 of SummerSlam and leave the vast majority of fans satisfied.

Naomi Retains Women's World Championship

2 of 7
Monday Night RAW

Naomi successfully cashing in her Money in the Bank briefcase at the end of Evolution to become the new women's world champion was a certified shocker—and a brilliant move.

The Raw women's division needed some sort of a shake-up with Rhea Ripley growing stagnant in the title picture, Iyo Sky's reign falling short of expectations and Liv Morgan being out injured indefinitely. Naomi is the perfect person to be positioned as the top female heel on the red brand right now.

To take the title off of her at any point in the foreseeable future would be a massive mistake.

Raw general manager Adam Pearce declared on the July 14 edition that come SummerSlam, Naomi will defend her prize against Ripley and Sky in a Triple Threat match. The Glow could lose without being pinned, but cutting her reign short simply to put the belt back on either Ripley or Sky at this stage wouldn't be wise.

Several championships are expected to change hands at the event and the women's world title should not be one of them. The three of them are guaranteed to have a great match, but Naomi walking away with her reign intact is the only acceptable outcome.

Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss Become WWE Women's Tag Team Champions

3 of 7

In short order, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss have become one of WWE's more popular acts on either brand, and are well on their way toward capturing the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship.

Sporadic interactions backstage in the spring led to them reluctantly agreeing to team up and contend for the twin titles at Evolution. Despite losing, their strong chemistry was on full display during the bout and made it clear that they'd soon be holding gold together.

Flair informed Bliss on Friday's SmackDown that she had managed to secure them a shot at the straps at SummerSlam, shortly before she beat Raquel Rodriguez in one-on-one action.

The WWE women's tag team division lacks depth and there isn't an abundance of teams for her and Bliss or even current champs Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez to defend against post-SummerSlam, but giving the former duo the win would allow them to capitalize on their momentum and keep their storyline alive without having to rush into a rivalry by breaking up prematurely.

Flair and Bliss clinching the tag titles at SummerSlam would be well-received by the crowd at MetLife Stadium and simultaneously give the belts the most attention they've had since they were around the waists of Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill.

Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed Defeat Roman Reigns and Jey Uso

4 of 7
Monday Night RAW

Roman Reigns' return to Raw last Monday saw him immediately pick up where he left off by targeting Paul Heyman's two new meal tickets in Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.

A match for SummerSlam wasn't officially announced, but the belief is that it will be The OTC and Jey Uso vs. Breakker and Reed at the event.

Reigns facing either Breakker or Reed in a singles capacity instead would be a better use of The Tribal Chief on such a significant show, but the tag team match not only ensures the popular Uso makes the card but also allows both members of Heyman's coalition to be represented while Seth Rollins is sidelined.

Nothing seemingly will be at stake, which is what makes it all the more crucial that Breakker and Reed emerge victorious.

Rollins' crew are still in the process of finding their footing as a faction. They've won occasionally on Raw but need to be built up stronger by racking up more wins against top-tier talent such as Uso and Reigns.

Breakker and Reed besting Reigns and Uso would emphatically send the message that they are a forced to be reckoned with on Monday nights and won't be easily disposed of by the returning former champion.

Lyra Valkyria Vanquishes Becky Lynch for the Women's Intercontinental Championship

5 of 7
Monday Night RAW

WWE has done an exceptional job of logically furthering the feud between Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria with every encounter they've had over the Women's Intercontinental Championship dating back to Lynch's surprising betrayal of Valkyria on the post-WrestleMania Raw.

The latest chapter in their story saw The Man barely retain her title in a Triple Threat match at Evolution by pinning Bayley. Valkyria then beat The Role Model in a terrific 2-out-of-3 Falls match on the next night's Raw to earn another opportunity at the title at SummerSlam.

A stipulation has yet to be added to the anticipated rematch, but one should be. Regardless of what that is, Valkyria getting the better of Lynch in the end and regaining the gold is the appropriate payoff to their feud.

Lynch could retain, go on to defend the title against a number of fresh faces on the Raw roster and have a memorable reign, but the endgame of this program should be to get Valkyria more over with the audience than she was before.

A win over a bona fide WWE Hall of Famer when it matters most would accomplish that.

Jacob Fatu Regains United States Championship from Solo Sikoa

6 of 7
WWE Night Of Champions

All signs pointed to Jacob Fatu vs. Solo Sikoa being the match for WrestleMania 41, but WWE holding off on it so Fatu could win the United States Championship from LA Knight instead has made their rivalry more meaningful now that the star-spangled prize is also up for grabs.

Sikoa stole the title from Fatu at Night of Champions with an assist from the returning Tonga Loa and the debuting Tala Tonga. The group hasn't been booked the best since then, but Fatu has at least remained a monster and gotten over in a major way as a babyface.

Fatu doesn't need the U.S. Championship to continue his ascent toward the top of the card, but the culmination of their story should see him finally solidify his superiority over Sikoa. That should be at SummerSlam now that it's been announced they'll clash inside of a steel cage.

While it hasn't lasted long, Sikoa's reign with the belt hasn't been anything out of the ordinary thus far. And strictly for the sake of the title's prestige, it should be in the possession of a star WWE intends to elevate such as Fatu.

From there, Fatu can carve his own path to greatness without any association with his family for the first time.

Seth Rollins Steals World Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk

7 of 7

After months of losing in high-profile matches, CM Punk has earned himself one last shot at glory by becoming the No. 1 contender to Gunther's World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam.

Gunther is riding a wave of momentum having just put down Goldberg in the latter's retirement match at Saturday Night's Main Event and he's proved in the past he'll stop at nothing to make certain Punk suffers a similar fate.

The match is genuinely unpredictable with Gunther still relatively early into his second run as champion and Punk desperately needing a defining victory. The Best in the World taking the title in the main event of Night 1 of SummerSlam is more probable, but not without a twist.

Fans have grown more and more suspicious of Seth Rollins' status since he was apparently injured during his Saturday Night's Main Event match with LA Knight. WWE playing up the injury as being more serious than it actually is—assuming it's real at all—would make a Money in the Bank cash-in from him at SummerSlam that much more astonishing.

Rollins has made it clear before that his sole goal for the last two years has been to prevent Punk from winning a world title. He can stay true to his promise by stealing this SummerSlam moment from him, whether that be cashing in during his match against Gunther or afterward.

Rollins' presence looms large over the Night 1 main event, and another exciting Money in the Bank cash-in is looking likelier by the day.
