WWE's Kevin Owens Reportedly Underwent Successful Surgery on Neck Injury
WWE star Kevin Owens underwent successful surgery on his neck Friday, according to Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp.
Owens had been scheduled to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41 in April, but just a couple of weeks before the event, he announced that he was dealing with a neck injury that would require surgery.
As a result, KO missed WrestleMania, and Orton instead had a match against a surprise opponent, which ended up being TNA's Joe Hendry.
Last month, Owens appeared on Cody Rhodes' What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, and he provided some details on the injury, noting that he hadn't yet gotten surgery (beginning at the 1:10:45 mark):
Owens said the doctors were waiting for his spinal cord to heal as much as possible on its own before undergoing surgery.
The former universal champion added that he had only recently begun experiencing significant symptoms at that time, and he was very much looking forward to the surgery as a result.
"I can't wait to get the surgery," Owens said. "Not just to get back in the ring, but to not be in pain. It's hard waking up every day and feeling like your body's failing you. I've never been good at sitting still, but this time I have no choice."
Owens explained that while he knew he wasn't 100 percent for quite some time, it got to a point at the start of April where he knew he needed to have his neck looked at.
After undergoing an MRI, Owens said doctors told him, "Don't even get hit because you might die."
Owens has maintained that he is unsure if or when he will be able to return to the ring, and there is still no timeline for his return.
The 41-year-old veteran has been with WWE since 2014, and he has established himself as one of the company's most popular and decorated Superstars over the years.
In addition to being a former universal champion, Owens is a three-time United States champion, two-time intercontinental champion, one-time NXT champion and a one-time holder of both the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
Owens has been a major absence for WWE over the past few months, but with his surgery reportedly in the books, he can begin the long road to recovery.
