Buy or Sell Latest on Goldberg, WWE SummerSlam Match Card, Seth Rollins Injury, More

Chris RolingJul 19, 2025

Exiting one of the busiest weeks of pro wrestling a fan could ever dream up, the rumor mill has only managed to one-up itself with the buzz.

Some of the blame rests on the approaching SummerSlam on the WWE side of things, one of the biggest events of the year.

A big chunk of it, though, is fallout from past events sending major ripple effects into the coming weeks and months. There is one major injury at the very top end of the business under the microscope, too, never mind some outright PLE event planning speculation after a recent event was so successful.

As always, it’s a lot to digest. To help fans battle the onslaught of buzz alongside the summer heat, here’s a look at the most notable rumors to know and whether fans should buy or sell on each.

Evolution 3 Time?

1 of 5
WWE - Evolution

The Rumor

There were some negative vibes around Evolution 2, in terms of timing against other wrestling events and other events in the sporting world. But the show was fantastic, to the point PW Insider (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats) reported that WWE’s reaction now paints a sequel event as an inevitable thing.

Reaction

The criticisms of WWE running Evolution 2 up against AEW’s All In and MLB All-Star stuff, plus near a Beyoncé concert, were more than fair. And the packed show crushed it anyway, making the feat all the more impressive.

Buy or Sell?

Easiest buy of the week. Evolution 3 was probably inevitable no matter what, at some point down the line. But now? The sooner the better, surely. WWE shouldn’t have needed convincing, but the Superstars went out and made it happen anyway.

Seth Rollins Injury SummerSlam Impact

2 of 5
Monday Night RAW

The Rumor

The big Seth Rollins injury continues to make waves on future planning ideas, it seems. According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ortman), WWE’s idea was for a returning Roman Reigns to have a match against Rollins. Now, WWE intends to pivot to Reigns vs. Bron Breakker.

Reaction

WWE can never, ever go wrong by building another Reigns vs. Rollins program. And it’s prolific enough that the Tribal Chief (er, OTC1, anyway) would have an excuse to stay away from the company’s biggest titles right now while things get sorted out, especially when it comes to John Cena.

Buy or Sell?

Sell on Reigns clashing with Breakker. WWE wants both guys to keep looking strong, so it’s hard to see how either one could eat a pin in a match. That leaves a dusty finish ruined by interference. Maybe WWE, then, resorts to a tag match of some sort until Rollins is back.

Seth Rollins Injury a Work?

WWE - Saturday Night's Main Event

The Rumor

In the era of everything could be a work, that idea has now targeted the Rollins knee injury. According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer (h/t Ortman), “multiple sources” have claimed the injury is a work in order to make a Money in the Bank briefcase cash-in attempt even more shocking.

Reaction

As much as this could make sense, Rollins’ injury history weighs it down. So does the clumsiness of the injury and quick LA Knight win during the match itself. Usually, pro wrestling “injuries” that help write a Superstar off-screen for a bit are, for better or worse, super obvious.

Buy or Sell?

Sell. The guy who pulled off the “Heist of the Century” at a WrestleMania doesn’t need help making a cash-in more surprising. While it wouldn’t spoil the shock of a cash-in soon, this Rollins injury, largely being a fake storyline thing, might leave a sour taste in the mouths of many fans.

Goldberg’s Goodbye Rumblings

4 of 5
WWE - Saturday Night's Main Event

The Rumor

Exiting the Goldberg retirement match in Atlanta, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (h/t Ortman) reported that WWE merely did it to get AEW’s All In some serious counterprogramming. He also speculated that AEW legit offered Goldberg a chance to sign.

Reaction

WWE obviously wanted to set up something big for All In weekend and had a good excuse. And to the credit of all involved, the match exceeded expectations and, minus the weird cutting off of the legend’s retirement speech, everything was memorable and fitting.

Buy or Sell?

Buy. WWE seeded Goldberg-Gunther hints long ago and found a good excuse to get the event in Atlanta. And obviously, all things considered, AEW would be silly not to at least sniff around the idea of letting him have a retirement run in their promotion.

WWE Crafting Another Big Star?

5 of 5
SmackDown

The Rumor

According to WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), Jacob Fatu is the subject of a big marketing push behind the scenes in WWE right now.

Reaction

Fatu doesn’t feel as next big thing as Bronn Breakker, but maybe that’s not fair…who does? Still, he was the guy fans seemed to want to see the most get after Roman Reigns and certainly has the feel of a main-event player.

Buy or Sell?

Buy. In the land of many potential main-eventers, Fatu stands out more than most. It’s the energy, unique move set and, finally, the Bloodline ties certainly don’t hurt. Getting major, even casual audiences more familiar with him is a work in progress that could pay off in a big way.
