Noah Lyles Finishes 2nd at Diamond League After Tyreek Hill Race Canceled, Tebogo 7th
Noah Lyles scored bragging rights over Letisile Tebogo in the men's 100 meters at the Diamond League in London on Saturday, but the American superstar didn't come away with a victory.
Lyles finished second overall with a time of 10.00 seconds, behind Jamaica's Oblique Seville (9.86 seconds). Tebogo (10.21 seconds) crossed the finish line seventh in the eight-man field.

Saturday's event marked Lyles' first 100-meter run of the year. He had been working to finalize a long-awaited showdown with Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill that would have taken place in Times Square last month, but Lyles told reporters in France things fell through for unspecified reasons.
"We were very deep into creating the event. In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend," Lyles said on June 16. "Unfortunately there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn’t come to pass, but we were full on."
Tebogo and Lyles have built up a rivalry fueled in part by Tebogo's comments during the 2024 Olympics that Lyles is "arrogant" in response to a question about being the face of track and field.
In the lead up to this weekend's event in London, Tebogo clarified his remarks by saying that Lyles is "good to sell our sport" and he would "shy away" from putting himself in the spotlight in the way Lyles has because it's not his personality.
Lyles has been dealing with injury issues this year. He was scheduled to run the 100 meters at the Atlanta City Games in May, but an ankle injury forced him to withdraw from the event.
Last week saw Lyles make a statement in his first Diamond League race of the season. The three-time Olympic medalist won the men's 200 meters at the Monaco Diamond League on July 11, finishing .09 seconds ahead of Tebogo (19.88 to 19.97).
Saturday's 100-meter race was a rematch, of sorts, from the 2024 Paris Games final that Lyles won for his first Olympic gold medal. Tebogo finished sixth and Seville finished eighth in the Olympic final last year.
The Diamond League is a prelude to the World Championships in Tokyo from Sept. 13-21.
