
Hannah Hidalgo, USA Beat Canada, Excite Fans with FIBA Women's AmeriCup Finals Berth
Team USA battled to a 65–53 win over Canada in the semifinals of the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup on Saturday.
With the victory, Team USA advances to the final, where they will face either Brazil or Argentina on Sunday.
On Saturday, Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo led the way with 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Vanderbilt’s Mikayla Blakes chipped in 11 points and two steals, while Texas’ Madison Booker provided a strong spark off the bench with 12 points, four rebounds and two steals.
The United States have remained unbeaten throughout the FIBA AmeriCup tournament, sweeping Group B in dominant fashion and bypassing the classification rounds to head straight into bracket play. In the quarterfinals, Team USA cruised past the Dominican Republic with a commanding 110–44 victory to secure their spot in Saturday’s semifinal matchup.
Fans flooded social media with excitement to celebrate Hidalgo and Team USA’s semifinal victory over Canada as they advance to the championship game on Sunday.
Hidalgo led Team USA at halftime with nine points on 42.9 percent shooting from inside the arc. Booker and Blakes each added five points, with Blakes also grabbing three rebounds off the bench. Olivia Miles contributed across the board with four points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Despite struggling offensively—shooting just 30.6 percent from inside the arc and 28.6 percent from three—Team USA trailed by only three at the break.
Coming out of halftime, the U.S. found its rhythm, outscoring Canada 20–15 in the third quarter behind four points each from Hidalgo and Kennedy Smith.
Team USA carried that momentum into the final frame, locking in defensively and holding Canada to just three points over nine and a half minutes. Hidalgo and Blakes continued to lead the charge, building on their strong performances to help seal the victory and punch Team USA’s ticket to the championship game.
Tip-off for the championship is set for 8:10 p.m. ET in Santiago, Chile, where Team USA will look to capture AmeriCup gold.
